Looks similar to this, although I would expect this would be fitted into the inlet manifold or block somewhere ?

It's an under-bonnet air temp sensor to activate the engine cooling fans to run on after the engine has been switched off. This was the early fix to prevent fuel evaporation and poor hot engine starting. Fans were only activated at very high under-bonnet temps.
