Default Victorians: Please Do Not Call 000 Unless You See Flames

Hi Ladys and Gents

Sorry to write in captails but I must say please do not tie up 000 this weekend unless you see flames. Please dont report "smoke sightings" as you can see theres alot of smoke around at the moment, Bush Fires cause this smoke and its all drifting across from the Gippsland/Alpine area. So unless you see physical flames dont call 000 because it ties up alot of resources (btw there are exepctions to the point where if you over looking bush land and you can see smoke pouring up from one location (but then the fire towers should of saw it)

So please dont report general smoke sightings and if you do report one make sure your very concise where it is

Thanks in advance

Its strange how people react surround by metal and concrete when these situations arise..

I think most of use would have a level head about these things, but can imagine how some people would be panic stricken about the whole ordeal

The MFB are having a fun day.. Automated fire alarms (which detect smoke), are going off everywhere due to the smoke.

Have a look...

yep Im a good 200km from the fires and the smoke is bad where I am ... You could think that the fire was only just out side of town .

I just checked out that MFB link .. those guys are good.. getting to each place in under 20min
that is good going .

My backyard is hazy and reeks of smoke, it reminds me of ash wednesday, except we had the ash falling as well.

I cannot imagine what the firefighters are going through at the actual location of these blazes, I can close the door and sit here and complain about how smokey it is whilst these poor buggers are out there in the midst of things.

Hope no one is injured today.

There are 200 NSW firefighters on there way (probably arrived by now) to help. One of our coaches helped load them up yesterday.

Yeah was speaking to one a couple of days ago ... there's more than 200 from what I heard as well.

I had the smokey issues with other week with the Mt Victoria and Putty fires going on arouns me ... got that thick one night that I could only use foglights to drive home ... low-beam was blinding back at me. And the fire was still 40-50kays away still. It's amazing how thick it can get even with wind gusts.

if anyone wondering where its coming from here it is so far report on ninemsn. Its seem like its getting hard for firefighter to go into battle this fire out. I thought that Mt Dandy was having bush fire like some years ago but this time its at the north west end of Melbourne

I find that hard to believe, Weribee is covered, so is Geelong, unless Hoppers has a huge fan!

Or Hoppers people are used to a smoke haze...LOL

Yesterday morning on the way to work there was a light haze everywhere, after a while i figured it must of been a smoky haze. A long way for it to drift!

Driving Home from the Geelong dyno day on sunday arvo at 5pm we had to stop a few times as the fire was right at the side of the road .. there was firees everywhere and farmers with the bulldosers trying to keep the fire there so it did not jump the road .. if it did then there was going to be no stopping it..
the fire took 22min for it to travel 1.3km..
hawks nest road was blocked from the princess h/way and so was just the other side of stoneyford in 3 diffrent places..
It made for a diffrent trip home thats for sure.

Here’s a few pictures from Saturday 9/12/06.

Wang Straight, (Hume Highway) north of Wangaratta heading south at 7:00 AM. At this stage the smoke was hurting my eyes even with the air conditioner on flat out. Visibility here was around 250 metres.

Benalla exit (where the infamous cop car crash was). Visibility was less than 200 metres here.

Mansfield exit, south end of Benalla bypass. Visibility around 150 metres.

Violet Town.

Euroa exit. At this stage it was still difficult to breathe, although visibility had increased back to around 250 metres.

The fires wont blow back on them self the fire front will conintually change. problem is with the wind changing direction it will save some people and put others in threat
