I am looking at doing an I.T course, i have alot of experience in hardware/software/networking, but don't have the piece of paper, saying i know how to do it.
Are correspondance courses ok ? or are they accepted like a proper TAFE course ? Luke

What qualification do you get at the end? Is it a reputable educational institution providing the training?

Dont waste your time, your better off doing OTEN for 525 a term for Dip and 350 for Cert IV (aprox) V's x,000's for the private places

wouldn't think a certificate 4 would be much use! what kind of job are you looking to get?

i reckon dont bother with cert 4, if u going to do it that way as i have recently done, go to tafe and do the full diploma. its easier and u get the peice of paper and experience needed for a job.
Although cert 4 is a stepping stone to get into a lot of other things like uni, and other courses. |

it depends what kind of work you're looking to do, but i'd consider doing a course like MCSE, Cisco, CompTIA etc as well. Can't hurt, and can help you get in the door.

I am a CIO (Chief Information Officer) my advise to you is to get as much pratical experiece. When we have advertised for IT Staff, we get people from India etc that have degrees and diplomas and everything else under the sun, when I hire I look for someone who has some pratical ability, anyone can get a piece of paper, I started in the IT Industry 17 years ago and started from the bottom, I have worked some very big Companies and I dont have any degrees, just a MCSE, CNE, CNA, MCP.

Don't get into IT. Sorry but its a really ИИИИty industry to try and get into. I advise against it unless you are one persistent mofo who also happens to excel at bullИИИИ ;).

Yeah it has got harder to get into, theres not many IT jobs going in Brisbane. But I can tell you it is still a very high paying industry compared to most others.

I have completed an IT TAFE cert IV through correspondance on the job, and it was great, not only for the theory based part, but also the practical tasks you have to do to complete it.
I enjoyed it moreso than the degree I am doing now, just because I could sit in my bedroom with an internet connection and finish the degree, whereas with the TAFE course I had to be more practical... |
