It may have been on before but on ABC tonight was a story about the Aussie Ute.

And they didnt include the ranger? As mundane as they are, and not a 'coupe utility' they were Australian designed, just made overseas. And also sold overseas. Ive had one. The closest ive had to one of the falcon utes in question is the au i bought on monday, but its not mine and its an xl

It's not a ute and just one of thousands of very similar different light pickup trucks and therefore not worthy of a mention in the context of the show's theme. It's not unique or a new concept like the ute was.

No; sorry for a purist a true Ute is a sedan derived vehicle and no longer made here or anywhere. Falcon, Holden, Valiant/Dodge/Wayfairer or even a US El Camino or Ford Ranchero.

If you want to be 100% purist, the AU onwards "utes" weren't technically utes either. Cause they had a separate tub.

Would the upcoming Hyundai Santa Cruz and Ford Maverick be proper utes, as they are based on passenger vehicles?

Whatever the definition is, there is nothing better than an Aussie Falcon or Commodore ute as an all rounder IMO.

Similar dynamics and power of a sedan but you can throw some **** in the back and tow a trailer. Also you had the wagons.

Anyways, throw in the black box recorder as an Aussie invention.

Thanks for that link - I'll be watching all these episodes from now.

The first item on that episode got my interest - the mechanical sheep shearing equipment, made by the company Wolseley in Australia.
My uncle, Don Munday, made a name for himself in the UK in the 1930s and 1940s demonstrating the "new-fangled" Wolseley shearing equipment, replacing the old hand "scissor" shears. He's passed away long ago, but he could still hand shear a sheep, and I have seen him demonstrating same at the Armadale Pioneer Village in WA in his 80s. He was regarded in some quarters as a World Champion shearer. He wrote a well-known book of his life "Tin Dog, Damper and Dust" (his definition of a 3 course meal in the North-West).

Not sure why folks say they're lazy. I certainly don't forego using a knife etc, just find them better than a normal flat fork.
