Default Early Data Indicates Universal Passion for Mustang Colours

As the all-new Mustang officially arrives in global markets for the first time, Australian customers – like many others worldwide – are opting for red and black as their top exterior colour choices

There are now more than 20,000 Australian “hand raisers” who have asked Ford to keep them posted with materials as the car launches later this year

About 1.1 million Mustangs configured on-line by Pony car enthusiasts throughout Europe, more than 18,000 consumers in China signed up to take the all-new Mustang for a spin

US Mustang sales up 32 per cent in February – making it the best-selling sportscar in America

MELBOURNE, 25 Mar., 2015 – Red and black clinch the top spots as the most popular exterior point colours for the first global Mustang, according to Ford’s initial consumer data.
Australian customers too have mimicked European and North American customers in choosing Race Red and Absolute Black as the most popular preferred colours.
Passion for the car is universal, but trends are beginning to surface based on customer data that provide an early glimpse into regional similarities and differences among Mustang enthusiasts worldwide.
In China and Europe Race Red clinches the top spot for exterior pain colour choice, with Absolute Black in a tie for first in Europe, according to Ford’s configurator data. Almost 35 per cent of Mustang orders in China are for Race Red, while black is the No 1 colour in the US. In Australia 23 per cent of Mustang customers have ordered Race Red, with 15 per cent choosing Absolute Black.
Some regional highlights to note:

Australia

With around 1,200 orders, Race Red is the overwhelming colour choice among Australian customers, representing about 23 per cent of total current orders. In second spot is Absolute Black with around 15 per cent. Oxford White is a close third at almost 10 per cent with Ruby Red next with 9 per cent. Guard, Magnetic, and Triple Yellow almost tie for customer preferences with around 8 per cent each

Competition Orange and Ingot Silver are also equal in preferences with 5 per cent

United States

With white the top color choice in the United States overall, Mustang bucks the trend; black remains the top Mustang color, followed by Magnetic Metallic and Ruby Red

Mustang sales up 32 per cent in February, making it the bestselling sports car in America with the launch of the all-new model last fall

China

With Mustang now on sale, 35 per cent of orders specify Race Red; Oxford White is the second-most popular color at 20 per cent, followed by black at just under 20 per cent

More than 5 million consumers visited the Ford site to learn more about Mustang; more than 18,000 requests for Mustang test drives logged in China

Awareness of Mustang is growing, and this has resulted in a powerful ripple effect on consumers’ perception of Ford; one in 12 Chinese consumers are aware of Mustang, and of those who not yet are, nearly 40 per cent are registering a more favorable opinion of Ford

Europe

One month after being made available to order, almost 1.1 million Mustangs have been configured on Ford’s European websites

The top colours are Race Red and Absolute Black – each accounting for 20 per cent of models configured across Europe

Race Red and Absolute Black occupy the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in each of the five biggest markets in Europe except for the UK

Deep Impact Blue is third-most popular color in Europe; in the UK, it’s second after Race Red, and in Italy, Deep Impact Blue is tied with Race Red, behind Absolute Black

Fans around the world have been waiting 50 years to drive the iconic Ford Mustang. Now they’re getting their chance, and it’s noteworthy that universal passion for the car is underscored by the colours customers everywhere are choosing to dress it in. There are more than 20,000 Australian “hand raisers” who have asked Ford to keep them posted with materials as the car is launched later this year.
Mustang demand has been high, with the car reaching dealer lots in the United States last year and China early in 2015. It’s set to go on sale in Europe mid-year, with almost 1.1 million Pony cars configured on Ford’s European websites just a month after ordering banks opened.
Mustang arrives into Australian dealerships at the end of the year, with Ford already holding around 1,200 orders for the Fastback and Convertible variants.
Apart from Race Red and Absolute Black, Mustang customers in Australia will be able to choose from:

Competition Orange

Ingot Silver

Deep Impact Blue

Magnetic

Triple Yellow

Guard

Ruby Red

Oxford White

Both Oxford White and Race Red are solid colours; the remainder are prestige colours, which carry a $500 premium.

It would be interesting to see the Manual/Auto transmission split.

I think the orange or yellow might have been my pick.

The people working in the factory building the Mustang will be over the moon, the amount of work they have on would be unbelivable.

Mustang is an old name, my bet is they will go gang busters when finally released here, it is a pity they are not in the lots right now while the mustang wave of popularity is high around the globe and in the media.

I believe it will never go the way of the monaro.
simple fact it is not built here. It is like a bmw coupe or a Chinese chery, fully imported.
As long as they continue to sell every where else, there is a demand for them.
All the consumer here has to do, if they want one, is place an order and wait for the US. to do the aussie batch every now and then, of cause there will always be the left overs at the dealerships after initial demand, but if you want particular colour with this and that, you will have to order and wait.

Totally agree. Comparing it to the monaro is just too funny

Also, it's a global car, so it will continue to be upgraded, be cheap and competitive. Mustang WILL do good in Australia just like everywhere else.

What struck me was the amount of awareness in China. WOW. Because that's ALOT of people! Imagine if they get onboard like they did with the Focus(helping the focus become the worlds biggest seller)
