so with Japanese cars touted to be $1500 cheaper when the Free Trade Agreement is implemented, what are the chances of Ford, Holden and Toyota making it to 2016/17?

According to this article the $1500 saving might be a little optimistic.
As for hastening the end? I don't think so. People use more than price as a factor for cars. If it were just price then all the micro cars would be the top sellers.

cars wont be 1500 dollars cheaper all the car companys/dealers before you will suck up the savings and youll still be paying the ****** prices welcome to ******* australia.

There will be next to nothing in terms of savings, it's been estimated that $800 is more accurate than $1500 as the tariff is calculated on the landed cost, not the RRP. And of that $800 next to none pass that on to the consumer, they will either add some extra equipment or pocket it.
If anyone thinks this will result in cheaper cars then you are kidding yourself. |

they will increase features more likely, no point in slashing prices which will effect resale. Car companies need to hedge against currency fluctuations, so are unlikely to hand cash over.

Toyota is the King of the Poverty Pack.
The FTA gives them 2 more option boxes to untick. Pass on savings to customers - Untick Include extra features - Untick There will be riots outside Toyota Dealers of people trying to buy Cars after the FTA to get their extra special, nothing has changed, but we think it has, white goods.
