Hi all
Ive been a member of the Ford forums for a few years now mostly playing with Falcons well Ive bought a new toy its an XR4i Sierra 2.3 turbo but when I checked the specs in Google it comes up as a Merkur not a Sierra no matter my new toy needs some work the motor doesnt run I will have to check that out the windscreen has a crack but most important to me is it has no ignition key and the steering is locked can I change the ign barrel or would I be better getting a locksmith to do something there if I changed the barrel would that upset the fuel injection computer just some things to go on with hope to hear from someone smarter than me thanks John |

Hi John. I could be wrong, but I believe the car you have was also known as the XR4ti. My understanding is the XR4i was for the European V6 model. The Yanks got the 4 pot. I owned an XR4i V6 for a while. sounded awesome and went very well in a straight line. The V6 isn't a light motor, so it braked and turned badly. I think the turbo puts out nearly the same power, but lighter and so a better balanced car.

Hi all
I got the new baby home today a lot of oil on the motor and green fluid hanging around the exhaust manifold well I got the key and hit it with a hammer to sraighten it out and I got the ignition to turn there was a plug lead half off so I pushed it back on I put 3 litres of oil in and some water also a new battery in and turned the key well it burst into life very quickly a little bit noisy in the top end but ran smoothly there was a lot of oil smoke coming from the front camshaft seal and dribbling down from the rocker cover a new gasket may be in order well every thing seems to work on it the only thing Im not happy with its a 5 speed manual Id much rather have an auto also without a code I cant work the stereo a new CD player might be needed thanks for the info on the model name it is definitely an XR4ti and definitely a four pot turbo for a pic have a look in last months Just cars and also in this months issue or Just cars I bought it out of this months issue thats all for now thanks John Last edited by last fairlane; 09-06-2013 at 08:36 PM. Is this car a lot different from an RS Cosworth?

yep. the cossie was a 2 litre turbo and very, very fast. slightly different bodies as well, as well as cosmetic differences like lights and grille. not sure about the other oily bits though.

John,
Congrats on the purchase! If you want any photos of any areas, or want to swap notes, I'm keen to help! Swanny.
