could be the sensor in the filler neck or something like that, does this happen with all pumps?

don't jam it all the way in, let it hang with a bit of breathing space.

make sure you hold the nozzle at the same angle as the filler neck. sometimes it's the angle of the dangle that makes a difference. that fixed my problems with the dreaded fuel pump.

it happens when using any pump to fill it.
i've tried every angle ,with the nozzle all the way in to just in a few mm it still dose it.
it never used to do this its only after it sat for a month the problem started.
is the only vent they have the one that comes up where you fill it ?

The filling problem is an easy fix that takes about 5 mins. Inside the filling socket there is the size reducer that has to be installed by law so only the unleaded fuel pumps can be used. I dont know why these things are still required as there is only unleaded fuel available now???? Anyway, inside this there is a small steel flap that is supposed to open when you insert the bowser nossle and close when you withdraw the nossle. This flap breaks off and becomes stuck in the filler tube. Get a coat hanger, bend the end of it over and go fishing down the tube. Once you have it near the top a pair of long nose pliars will assist you to get it out. I imagine it could be a little fiddely but I was lucky and had it done in 5 mins, with no more filling dramas. Good luck and let everyone know how you get on!!

it's there so people don't fill there petrol tanks with diesel.

I had this happen to me on Caltex Eflex ethanol pump. I tried every trick in the book and in the end the pump was buggered according the service station operator. Went back a week later and the pump was working again.
