Need advice on buying a self propelled mower?

Hi I need advice on buying a self propelled mower?

My old rover has had over 20 years of service and every time I use it something breaks time to replace it.

I have seen a few on ebay they look like honda copies has anyone had any experiance with them?

Buy a ripoff if you like replacing your mower on a regular basis, otherwise
SPEND THE COIN AND GET THE SAME ONE AGAIN.

I was just doing some browsing on this exact subject. My parents have a Duetscher which is great but can be a little cumbersome and the price is up there. I have my eye out for a secondhand one.

I was just checking out the Toro website but their info is a little lacking. They have a 'personal pace' drive system which sounds interesting. It has infinately variable speeds up to 7.7km/hr. I wouldn't mind finding out more about them. They also have decks up to 26" wide which sound good but it looks as though they don't have the variable speed.

I would assume rear drive is better than front drive?

Honda's can be a little over rated in my opinion. We have Honda's and Briggs on various things on the farm and we have had more trouble with the Honda's.

I have two Honda sp 216 for my lawn mowing business very happy with them.

I would rather buy from a dealer and would be wary of parts and warranties though I have heard a couple of good reports on the ebay ones some guys using them commercially the motors are supposedly genuine the Decks are rip offs
it may also be worthwhile looking at proscape mowers you can get them on ebay or from mower shops, the 6hp Kawasaki motor is suppose to be real good in wet grass which is not one of Hondas strong points. The self propelled is not that fast but you can get a giddy up kit for them.

Or you could yourself another rover I have heard the rover procut is a decent sp mower

Might be a bit pricey for just a backyard though

I was going to buy one and was advised not to as grass and **** gets in the belts and they dont last.

I have a honda 5hp 4 stroke self propelled mower.

Its 11 years old, only ever needed a plug and a service in that time, and never failed to start first pull every time.

It was expensive back in the day at around $1000, but that was my old boy's problem back then. The old boy always said the money was worth it every time he saw our neighbour swearing like a trooper every saturday at his heap of s&*t rover two stroke. (I never disagreed with this logic)

Still honda still looks immaculate too.

Can't recall if it was Toro or Masport that had a SP mulching mower. Not having to empty a catcher is a big plus IMO.

I borrowed my parents self propelled mower last summer and from that I will never buy a push mower again. I can't justify a ride on for my lawn so self propelled it is for me from now on.

Honda have a couple of SP Mulching/Catching/Side-Discharge mowers available, i pretty sure they started at $670.
