Default Comprehensive insurance on my ex Taxi AU TURBO

Hi Folks,

I was with my insurer the other day discussing different policies and other such things. I asked him about insurance on my XR6 Turbo (keep in mind I am 30 and have no real car insurance history, and 0% no claim bonus) he offered full comprehensive for $530 per annum with a $500 excess. I am changing over to this.

I am currently paying a fleet rate of $800 per annum with a $750 excess.

Not expecting much and more out of curiosity I asked him to quote me for comprehensive insurance on the TURBOTAXI - for those that dont know its an ex taxi AU with Turbo, front mount cooler and LPG etc.. The car is engineered so its all on the RTA system. I was totally open about the modifications to the car.

I have had two speeding fines in the last 12 months. I have a colourful driving history too.

I said I wanted agreed value of $6000, full comprehensive cover, opportunity to buy wreck in the event of a write off.

So he rings me today and he apologises and says he has to charge more because of the modifications - so I was thinking $1500 or something.

The end cost was $560 per annum. I was pretty pleased with this as this means if the taxi hits a roo it gets fixed properly.

I thought I would share this as insurance for modded cars is often put in the too hard basket - I know I have not even asked about insurance since I put the turbo in it.

So now I have my two turbo falcs insures for about $250 more than it was costing for one.

Cool

That is through Elders insurance.

I think the underwriter for "enthusiasts cars" is QBE.

$560pa!?!? That's 2 and a bit months insurance for me! 37 at max no claim bonus in Sydney for a stock XR8!

Don't ever move to Sydney, I think the universe would implode if you asked for a quote on the turbo here.

What a rip off - you need an address in the country. As I said I have 0% no claim and have only had comprehensive for 12 months.

(with a roo related claim too!)

That's better than the $1300 or so I was quoted from Just Cars. I have my landlord cover thru Elders so I might give them a call re the car too.

Insurance was going to be $10 a year cheaper for me if I put a turbo on my car. I checked it all out before I done it, and was blown away with the result, lol.

That is weird. You would think it would result in the price doing up.

Ho Horse for courses - I probly created more problems for myself than I actually encountered in building it.

My Kit did not include:

2 INCH S/STEEL SCREAMER PIPE
OIL SENDER T & FITTINGS
50MM BILLET B.O.V
2:1 ADJUSTABLE FUEL PRESURE REGULATOR
FRONT MOUNT INTERCOOLER 600X300X76

The kits just keep getting easier as there is more included.

My advise would be to get an exhaust gas analyser on it ASAP after it is bolted up to see what it is doing. I understand Geoff has been cracking 235rwkw on stock motors with a rising rate reg but the trick is to try and ensure the engine does not detonate.

Happy to help if I can along the way - good luck!

thats pretty cheap.
Im 17 and i have my AU comprehensively insured.
Mods include 17's, lowered and exhaust next week.
Well its under my parents name til im 18 and get my P's.
and yeah that is costing me $250 per annum and $900 excess because im an L plater but if my parents are driving its $500.
And to add my name to the list when im 18 will cost about $150-$250.
Im with RACV, parents are 1 rating (no crashes), but i live in a small city.

Thats pretty decent.

I'm paying $1600 for my BA MKII XR6T full comp through just car, I'm 22.

It was a good deal at the time.

EDIT: I also have an agreed value of $32000 if written off. Excess is $500 I think.

That "I think" part makes me laugh.....You really should check BEFORE you have an accident and find out by accident.

I would assume it may be a Standard Excess of $500 + whatever the appropriate age Excess is + any other Excess that may be applicable on your policy.

Not trying to have a go at you, just trying to make a point as so often People don't know or understand their policies when it comes to making a claim when they had the info at the time of renewal or inception.

Pay my insurance monthly so it works out $1200 a year for the BA xt on 18's with exhaust and all the small bits on it. I only just turned 19 on the weekend too.... was the cheapest insurance i could find.
