Tonight, I blew my diff performing, what I must say was the best burnout ever (it was cool), until the big bang and following that was a gush of diff oil that came leaking from my car. Does anyone in perth have a diff for sale preferably a 3.77 ratio (from the 1.6L) Does anyone know how easy/hard it is to fit a new one. PS towing isnt easy when you use shoe lace.

If you are handy with some basic tools, it is really easy. If you are only replacing the centre and axles, it should not take more than a couple of hours. Where abouts did it spring a leak from?
Towing with a shoe lace????? If you like doing burnouts, keep looking for more diffs, as they are a weak point with the esky. Have you thought about upgrading to something stronger? |

The leak is coming from the centre part (i dont know the proper name) the place where the crowns mesh together (thats the best I can do). I will consider something stronger later on when I have more time to do some fabricationand get cash. Also any idea how i could tell if i ****ed my g/box to or anything else ? I knew the diff had died cos of the oil and my car was just idleing and not mving when put into gear ???

disconnect your tailshaft from the diff and let it lay on something and get someone in your car and get them to go through the gears and if the tailshaft spins your gearbox is ok, im too cared to try burnouts in my eski, axle tramp is my worst nightmare!!

Yeah I had already checked and the tailshaft spins. Then jacked her up put her on some axel stands and pulled out the rear wheel axles then drop tail shaft and removed diff centre and there was the little crown (think it was called a planet) shattered into a million pieces. I think i might be getting a new centre tommorow for $100 but ill look in the quokka for a reasonable price. When doing the burnout my car bounces like crazy (axle tramp) very uncomfortable wicked strips. IF ANYONE HAS A DIFF CENTRE FOR CHEAP IN PERTH YOU HAVE A BUYER.

yeah eski's are known for their lethal axle tramp.. get sone trailing arms(anti tramp bars) or if ur lookin to do sic burnouts buy an xd-xe-xf diff with drum brakes, discs kill ur fun, and get it shortened, its kind of exxy but itd be worth it

Do the anti-tramp bars bolt up, or do they need to be welded. Does the XE-XF diff centre bolt up to Escort diff housing.

You can get bolt on anti tramp bars.
Falcon diff centre does not bolt up to the esky housing. |

I broke 3 diffs in my esky (all under Wynns warranty) then put a a few welds on the planetry gears and never looked back.
Spun the linings off the clutch plate twice 'till I bonded and riveted it , and put in a higher pressure diaphram in the pressure plate. Those failures only happened because I ported the head, put on twin side draft Webbers, 3/4 race cam with roller slippers, cosworth con rods, balanced everything. It was a 2lt job and used to go like a rocket, spin to 9,000 rpm plus...... til I totalled it

the best thing to do is put a quaff lsd kit in the diff i know u can buy the kits 4 4.4 and4.11 ratios not sure on 3.77 u can go and talk to a bloak called rolly at racetune in bayswater ive know him all my life tell him broady sent u he might give u a good deal but dont bet on it
also 3.77 diffs are weaker than 3.54 but u get aquicker tack off with 3.77 and quicker again with a 4.4 |

these bars are illegal to use on street cars cause they hang down to far and if you hit a speed hump or gutter you will be catapoted into the air the tramp rods you need are the ones that weld to the diff or get some off a gt falcon or esp falcon they all had them
