Speakers

Just wondering what size speakers are standard in the front doors of an AU, and what have other people done in the way of mounting splits in the doors. Any help would be great.

Front and back they are 5 by 7's.
I just put jbl's 5 by 7's in there.

Had an MDF template made up and mounted behind the front door grilles ... I run 6" Pioneer bullet splits ... and have the tweeter mounted on the MDF board as well behind the grille so they are hidden too.

Hmm, i've got a set of alpine type s 5 x 7 splits at home i was going to put into another car, but i was thinking about putting them into this, my only dilema is where i'd be able mount the tweeter, originally i was think of up the very front top of the door trim, any idea if it would be able to be recessed ther or is there metal behind that section?

Plenty of room there. That's where I have mine.

Unless you want to be tricky ... and stick them in the vents in the top of the dashboard.

Yeah, i thought about that MEchan1k, but was thinking that maybe it'd be a bit far away, i might just go with my first idea of putting them in the top of the doors, thanks guys.

I've got 6.5" Crossfire splits in the ute.

Mounted the tweeters on the A pillar.

thats where they are mounted from the factory in the high series cars (a-pillar) anyway, so if i was ever going to get splits i would put them there. i mean, if ford put them there, then there has to be a reason for it acoustics wise i would think?

Not hard, just running the wiring behind the dash, along the side, and behind the plastics.

I'm running 6" splits on a spacer up front & 5x7s in the rear.

My new system, will be the same with 6" splits up front & 6" coaxials in the rear on a spacer.

Yeah, the ones I have are adjustable, so I've got them pointing as close to the occupants as possible.

do you have any pics of the spacers you rigged up for the 6.5s??

i have 6.5" splits here but the spacers have to go outside the standard opening a fair way and also need probably 16mm worth of spacer to get CLOSE to what i need without hitting the window?

There was a thread on this a while ago, just trying to find it now...

The splits up at the bottom of the a pillar still through out enough trebble, i actually had to put my tweeters on the -3 Db scale because they were throwing out to much.

I'd have to rip the door trims off to get pics. I can't remember off the top of my head what I did, because the splits had direct fitment when I had the old 6" coaxs in there.
