Apple car play

Have a 2020 Skoda apple car play via usb cord to i phone 7.
After working ok for 12 months its decided to play up. Drops out most of the time.
Tries multiple usb to phone cords same problem.
Disconnected phone reconnected phone same problem.
Reset system to factory setting reconnected phone same problem.

I ve got going into the dealer for a service in February but its a long wait.

I use the car for door dash (like uber eats) and when apple car play works the mapping and voice instructions are just brilliant ....

Anything else I can try or anyone on the Gc that can press a few buttons for me?

Reading through various internet forums apple car play drop out occurs with lots of brands.

Check the phone for lint in the lighting port where your charger goes it maybe full and the connectors not making good enough contact

Cleaned all the various contact points but sadly no change.
In fact its not even charging off the car usb now but charges if I use a cigarette lighter accessory off the car cig lighter pint.
When I bought the car the usb had fallen back in to the dash-the dealer remedied it.
I suspect you are right about bad contact and the car usb has moved back a fraction so no contact.

iPhone 7 is an older phone now, are you running the lasted software?

Yes the phone is updated with all iOS updates.

I did have five Ford Focus/fiesta from 2005 /2020.
Ford marched their prices out of my reach hence I moved to Skoda.
Since then of course most brands have upped their prices dramatically.
Also had a 100e Anglia, a 1300 Escort and a Cortina Gte back in ancient times.
