and steffo the aurion will cost a quater of some of those cars, so point is the 3.5 is a very good engine especialy in a family vehicle.

all are standard with a 6 speed auto as well so i would imagine performance would be up their with the best of them ;)
Plenty of driver aids doesn't always mean it will be any good though, just ask the Renault Magane Turbo....

190Kw from 3.5L isn't that special, Honda can get over 220Kw from a SOHC 3.5L V6 in the new ledgend (simular market).

Fords I6 however is one of those engines that will basically have a bump in power every model.. EA it was what 120 kw? Eb got more like 130, EF got 150 ish, Xr's got 164 kw, AU got 172kw, BA 183kw, BF got 190 kw... Orion will no doubt get 200kw. Toyota 3.0L V6 hasn't been bumped any decent amount sinced it arrived.

Ford and Holden already offer DSC/ESP on many cars. Mitsubishi is the only one opting out at this stage.

At the end of the day is a nicer Camry going to pull people out of Fairmonts and Berlinas. No way. The Japs don't have the technology advantage they once had with IRS, multivalve engines, nice transmissions, and such.

However toyotas safety drive with knee and curtain airbags is a good thing. Camrys need to be safer, avalons even more so (its a 15 year old car!)

Ford could extract 220Kw from the I6 quite easily, theres a major reason for the current 190kw figure - Project Orion, obviously Ford is saving its best for 2008.

Very True, the Lexus new GS430 has more driver assists than a FA-18 Hornet, but has been consistantly named "sterile to drive".

Technology overkill does happen, Very few cars have the balance right. (3 Series, Focus, Golf Gti, RS4....)

3.0L v6 was 125 then 130, is now 141 in std and 145kw in sportivo, not much of a gain but still a gain, untill they had the decent looking 02 or current shape they didnt really care about performance much or handleing.
As for the honda being a competitor not with a 100k + price tag it wont be.

hmm 3.5L quadcam v6 that is a world wide award winner, with toyota's build quality/reliability but now with a bit of hp behind it may be enought to sway non enthusiests, and maybe even some when the S/C verson is launched, the auto box is a 6 speed derived from the lexus which will be super smooth and would transfer power well to the FWD platform, and your forgetting the fact that their are some VERY good FWD systems out their... only time will tell, the Aurion is not a camry they are a diffrent chassies to eachother and when launched will be noticeable differences between the two, as the kluger will share more with avalon than camry will.

avalon hasnt been around since july last year, camry is a 4 star crash safety rating atm, and will be 5 stars when the all new one is launched around july with same drivers aids as the aruion and 6 airbag's to add to the list, 125kw 2.4L 4cyl and a 5 speed auto, they will also be launching with the aruion S/C a S/C camry 4 as part of their hot in house development.
