Hello
I just bought a 2000 AUII Forte and suspect there is a problem with the interior lighting system. When I lock the car... the lights dont seem to turn off  : .Also when the car is started.. they dont seem to turn off. Is there some sort of extra long timeout thing? I've checked all the doors, boot, windows, bonet. What should i do? Regards, Jimmeh |

havent got the interior light switch on near the headlights switch have u ??? ..lol
...... seriouslly , i'de maybe check all the switches around the doors and boot etc etc , pull them out , unplug each switch and then push them in , while pushed in test there continuousy with a multimeter , they should break circuit when pushed in (reverse of normal push switches ), and u should get a continuouty beep from your multimeter when the button is released ( as if the door was open ) ... check all the switches for a faulty switches .... i havent personally looked at the AU door,boot switches as yet but i gather they work on the same principal as older cars .. |

oh , also maybe check the cluster too for the 'doors open' lcd display , make sure its not lighting up when the doors are closed , if it is then it might be another problem , im not sure if that display works off the switches that control the interior lights for when u open doors too . ?????

the delay on the lights when locking is normal...
should go out when you turn the key unless as XR6 ^^^^^^ said you have the toogle in the on position.. Another thing that strikes me in your post is you refer to the interior light as 'they' ... You sure the map lights aren't on? I am going off memory though I pulled the bulb out of my interior light ages ago and just use the map lights if I need to.

thanks for the replys
I dont have a switch for the interior lights. The LCD does not show anything either and also the map reading lights are off. By interior lights, I mean the main centre light and the key switch light (ignition switch). Regards, Jimmeh |

the little tab has broken off your switch then.. Pop off the knob for the headlights, (just pry it off with a flatblade screwdriver) under that is a disc shaped bit of plastic that **should** have a tab on it for turning on and off the interior light.. You can get them new from Ford,, It is a 2 minute fix but in the interim you can either pull the bulb out of the holder or try and move the disc anti-clockwise to turn the interior light off ... Stick the screwdriver under the disc with the tab missing and head into Ford with it and ask for a newie..

lol , thats kewl , took me a while to find it when i first purchased my car too , as i didn't get a handbook with the car ..lol , good to hear its not a problem anyway ;)
