put the boot down on my xr6 throttle and it took of like a rocket ship.pulled in to the driveway all seemed good. next morning started up reversed out and just stopped and would not start.open the bonnet and belt ripped to pieces.some even jammed behind the crank pulley.a broken crank sensor and a water pump pulley snapped in half.all pulleys spin freely.my mechanic cant explain why the pulley snapped.my question is has anyone had this happen to their au. thanks

I had it happen in the EB; with wear the serpentine belts get fine cracks across the belt (you can see them when you fold the belt back against itself like this :
  ...) and break under any stress such as putting the boot in. The above are pretty bad examples; you usually see less cracks to start with like this:  . You got off lightly; my wife kept driving the car home and stuffed the crank pulley as well as the idler.

Yeah, seen it before on the cabs. I've never been quite sure as to the chicken vs egg scenario - does a grenading belt take out the pulley, or does the failing pulley ruin the belt?
At any rate, a pulley (of some kind) and a drive belt every half a decade is par for the course on an AU.
