Russ,

Thanks for your response. I thought from the sales stats preamble that you had your own criteria for the classifications:

"Because the segmentation we use in our monthly stats is slightly different from the standard VFACTs ones, the charts below look at each individual segment based on our criteria - except where otherwise noted."

How does your differ from VFACTs price classifications then?

Thanks

It actually doesn't currently but it used to when we had a prestige and luxury segment to cover the Fairlane and LTD. VFacts treated both of these as Upper Large but we split them for our purposes.

Now that they no longer exist it is largely rhetorical.

Cheers
Russ

How can they classify a Captiva 5 as a small SUV and a Captiva 7 as a medium SUV, when they are essentially the same car. Same goes for the Camry and Aurion which are the same size but ones medium and the other is large.

The territory tailgate allows you to open the glass lid separate from the whole tailgate.

I think he means:

1) it drops down level with the tray, so it goes to 90 degrees - kinda like a bench and how you see most utes with their tailgate open

2) it can then swing all the way down 180 degrees. therefore out of the way so you can reach in further

As said above, the tail gate could be opened out like a Ute or opened sideways like a RAV4
The idea died out in XA-XC because no one really wanted the sideways opening feature.

The Maxima's RRP was $37,355 in 1991, and rose to $41,105 in 1994.

Pretty remarkable that it costs less today, 20 years later (even more remarkable is Accord which was $35,500 in 1989, and $32,490 today).

However, today's 2.5L Maxima has quite a bit less torque than the old 3.0L model did 20 years ago (and weighs more too).

Also, the Maxima sold in Australia today isn't what I'd call the "real" Maxima. The car we get is just a rebadged Nissan Teana, which is really just a basic medium car. The "real" Maxima sold in the US is much more of a full-size luxury car like the original was 20 years ago, and it's a real stunner (saw many while over there recently).

Funny how they made that great ad then, and sold the most amount of Falcon's they ever have.

If only only it was that simple

Would having nothing to do with GFC, rising fuel prices etc

Well considering that Aussies are better off than most after the GFC. Most probably can't remember it now. Rising fuel prices is a big factor though. But hopefully EcoLPi will change all that.

Manufacturing is in a recession and has been ever since the GFC.
