Sad day for me - Forced to part with my Focus TDCI :(

Hi All,

Well after a magical 5 months of ownership, I am forced to sell my FULLY optioned FOCUS TDCI. I can honestly say this has been the best car I have ever driven, its still a baby - only just about to take it up for the 15,000 km service.

I got a new job, company car is part of the package so unfortunately it looks like im going to be stuck with a grandpa car for the next year or two :(

I am seriously considering disregarding the component of my new salary package with the company lease and just keeping the focus - it really has been a sensational car.

Any thoughts?

Why not keep both then?
Less wear on the Focus and you can leave the grandpa car home when you want to.

$$$$ thats why - i cant justify having so much cash invested in the car if im never going to drive it, petrol is free with the other car :(

I don't think I'd be able to do it, I love my grunty little oiler.

The car looks in mint condition, is there no way the company can cover the costs of your current car instead?

Most company cars are fridges on wheels.. unless it's a good one?

Can't you get a deal wher you get a travel allowence / deal in lue of the company car ? ie you run your own car and are compensated accordingly.

Will they let you take the value of the car and related expenses in salary. Would mean you would be paying your full tax rate on the money but than you get to make a full claim back on your tax. Worked well for me a few years ago.

Unfortunately no such luck. Its a role with an automotive company (not ford), and the car is whatever I choose, up to a certain value. Still not sure what it will be, but yeah unfortunately there is no way I can package my existing vehicle :( they wont listen to reason.

I thought of selling it after a month or two, but i risk loosing more value on it - such a shame - its such a sweeeet car. Im like the poster boy for ford diesels, i tell everyone I meet how good my car is lol

I had exactly the same scenario 9 months ago - except my job is with Ford :o) Sold my Focus Zetec that I loved dearly to photn ^^^^ and got an XR8 with free fuel. Wanted so desperately to keep it but couldn't justify it. Honestly prefer the Zetec to the XR8 too as a driver's car and a city car, although XR8 chews highway miles. I've now got a manual BF II XR6 which is much nicer than the XR8 for my driving style and love of twisty roads.

In the end you'll be better off with that cash earning 8% interest in a savings account for a house, or paying for a holiday, or buying something you really need. Mine's earning interest for a house one day and the car's in a good home being loved and driven every day by its new owner, who's ALMOST as passionate as me!

and who often offers and lets him drive it when ever he wants and see it reguarly. gotta love that after sales support

Well, as you aren't in a desperate hurry, just stay firm with your price (well, reasonably). Sell it when you are comfortable with the price you have both agreed on.

As others have said, I too would sell the car. If my car wasn't a requirement for work (i.e. if I worked in the city) I too would be selling my car. It's just not worth it.

Think about the costs you'll save within a year - it more than makes up for it!

Plus, after your 2 year stint in a company car, you might be able to get back into a better diesel (Um, Golf GT Sport TDI maybe?)

Hell, you might even be closer now to getting a house...

Yeah I know - its really sad, honestly in my life this has been the first car (out of 5 of them) that I have ever been actually proud to own and drive.

I will find an owner who will love it and look after the car as much as I have, the sales process will be more of an "interview process" i think lol

cars are about 700 to transport between states, but unfortunately its not really worth it for you to do that...
