"The SLE concept does not require any financial contribution from groups 2, 3 or 4. "

The SLE proposal will only us the sanctioning and rules of ANDRA for Gp. 1. ANDRA will still have control and licencing of Gp. 2, 3, 4. The argument is then that if SLE is promoting and running Gp. 1, ANDRA won't need the development fund to pay for Gp. 1 promotion and TV therefore they should be removing the Development Fund increases. SLE is owned a run by the Gore Group, famous for the Team Australia Indy Cars and WPS Sillycars. They are not part of ANDRA. The mentioned Gore brother was at Willowbank for the TinTops observing and was quite impreased with what he say. Thje Development Fund was a knee jerk reaction from ANDRA when they found out about the SLE proposal. This is cause "Surprise, Surprise" ANDRA have done nothing but sit on their hands when it comes to promoting and furthering Drag Racing.

I don't think ANDRA support it at all....

Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) Chief Executive Officer, Tony Thornton has moved to publicly reaffirm the governing body owns full copyright and management rights to the sport’s Group 1 categories and major events within Australia.

The affirmation comes after an announcement today by Straight Line Events Pty Ltd (SLE) and its CEO Shane Gore to run an alternative series for professional teams.

Group 1 consists of the headline Top Fuel, Top Alcohol, Top Doorslammer, Pro Stock, Top Bike and Pro Stock Motorcycle brackets.

According to SLE’s release, for competitors wishing to compete under its system they will be required to invest in a franchise licence, for which there are set numbers.

No allowances have been by SLE made for Group 2, 3 and 4 Sportsman categories.

SLE’s announcement comes after ANDRA itself this past week announced the implementation of the Drag Racing Development Fund (DRDF).

The DRDF will fund ANDRA Championship Drag Racing Series marketing and promotional activities, along with a national television deal, media and sponsor liaison and market research.

The DRDF will benefit all the sport’s stakeholders, including competitors through all levels.

“As owner of all drag racing categories and their management rights within Australia, today’s announcement by Mr Gore and SLE comes as a surprise to ANDRA and Drag Ltd,” Thornton said.

“An invitation was recently extended to Mr Gore by ANDRA and Drag Ltd giving him the opportunity to present the SLE business plan, but this was rejected.

“Even though ANDRA is yet to see any formal business plan, financial details or proposed contracts, SLE’s announcement promises its events will be given championship status and run under ANDRA sanctioning. For this, there is no agreement in place.

“We believe the DRDF best addresses the issues for the future of ANDRA Championship Drag Racing for all – competitors, promoters and fans alike.”

Thornton also stressed ANDRA owns all rights in regards to the ANDRA Championship Drag Racing Series and awards such as the coveted ANDRA Gold Christmas Tree trophy.

Drag Ltd is a joint venture between ANDRA and the three major Australian tracks (Perth Motorplex, Willowbank Raceway and Western Sydney International Dragway) and is responsible for the marketing and promotion of the sport.
