Why would America be upside down in the death Vs recovered outcomes?

Off the top of my head they are running at 2 deaths for every 1 recovery where everyone else seems to have way more recoveries than deaths.

I think it is testing here in the US.


I know a guy, tested positive 3w isolation from likely time of infection (2.5 weeks from first symptom).
Currently symptom-free, but there is no 'End of Isolation' test.
There is one unreported recovery ... and the only person I know who has been infected.
