Used my own vehicle for their benefit. Used my OCD tendencies to completely transform the place. And because I'm single with no family, I was always called to fill in while they all had weekends away. I missed out on family get-togethers and events I would have loved to attend but didn't so that they wouldn't be put out.

All of that additional effort, over and above what was expected, and where did that lead me? Being taken advantage of. And when I did say enough, I was then taxed 30% on my final payout, which wasn't their fault but is just another thorn in the side. I worked so hard for so long thinking that was what people wanted, but ended up shooting myself in the foot because that is what people took for granted and meant I went without.

My advice, only do the bare minimum for your job title. You won't get anywhere overachieving in this world. Not saying be lazy, but any additional work is a waste of your time. The employer never notices the good you do or the extra time you put in, but they sure as hell notice if you do something wrong or ask too many questions. We are all told to overachieve and people will notice. Oh, they notice all right, they notice who is doing all the free work.
Come on DFB, there are good and bad in every job and I say do try and overachieve in everything you are tasked with even if its for own job satisfaction.
There's enough slackers in the workforce as it is.

Not every boss is out to get you.

Congrats to foxtrot3

Yep roK.
I understand where DFB is coming from from his Own experience.
The place he worked at for so long loyalty certainly didn’t recognise their devoted workers But not to tar all with the same brush.
There is a lot of ordinary employers and there is a lot of good ones like anything.

Yep agree - dont lower yourself to their level.

I am sure after reading DFBs posts over the years that he would never just 'do the minimum'. Too good for that

But, sadly there are plenty of bosses that dont appreciate good staff.

And yes - congrats to foxtrot3 - enoy the time off

I think its pretty obvious I'm not lazy or don't try my best. I did that for 20 years, but got to the point where my efforts were taken for granted. I wasn't supported and only ever got negative feedback. Being there and tolerating it for so long is on me. But as you can imagine, I'm fairly jaded at the moment, and will be for a long time. Sorry for being so down.

That sux big time, 20 years loyal service above & beyond and you got nothing to show for it, hard lesson my friend but don't let it embitter you.
At least you have an excellent work ethic, and I hope they written you a glowing work reference, you surely deserve that.

Yeah, no reference.

I got called in for an "exit interview", which stressed me out. I turn up expecting a bunch of questions, all that was said was "this is how long you worked for us, this is what you are owed, goodby". My sister works in HR and she said, "lol that's not an exit interview."

Can you see what I'm getting at here? They really don't think they did anything wrong. Heads are sooooo far up where the sun doesn't shine that they simply can't see what is going on. Put it this way, I'm one of three who quit within a 3-month period.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean, my company is the same and the management cannot understand why the workforce hate them, all about them & FU to the workers.
This unfortunately is becoming the norm with most companies these days, I've only got over 12 months left before I retire, believe me it can't come soon enough.

Still waiting for the electrician to power it up, but progress is progress.
Good choice of brand, these work quite well in both modes of heating & cooling, lot of other brands struggle to heat in colder conditions where Daikin works quite well.

Excellent! I didn't get to choose it, rather it's what the company uses. Expecting to have them powered next Wednesday.
