So far as I know all the escort /Cortina motors should be the same. The only blocks which are different are the ones from the sierras-usually have a 205 stamped n the block. These are stronger and the heads have larger ports and valves than the early motors. Len

From memory there are different blocks and internals. They were German blocks and had a different casting mark. The rods were stronger as may have been the crank. Sorry was a long time ago now. Your best bet would be go to one of the escort forums as all of the info is out there.

Years ago a mate had a 78 TE 2L auto & I had 2L man 77 esky, both low kms & believed to be unmodified. His guttless as, mine the exact opposite. Some time latter my car was off the road getting a rebuild & we put my stock head on his stock bottom end after he did a head gasket. By now he had also completed auto to man conversion. Just changing the head made a massive improvement to the performance of the cortina, I believe there were both high compression (escort/man?) & low compression (cortina/auto?). The cams were different numbers, but have no idea of any other differences.

Escort - There were certainly high and low compression 2lt motors in Escorts.
http://www.rsmotorsport.com.au/ford_...scortmkii.html Code Description Years J 2.0L - 4cyl 2V - High Compression 1975 to 1980 R 2.0L - 4cyl 2V - Low Compression 1975 to 1978 Cortina motors http://www.automobile-catalog.com/ma...loon/1979.html Auto and Manual were different power outputs Auto: advertised power: 64 kW / 86 hp / 87 PS ( DIN ) / 5300 , torque: 140 Nm / 103 lb-ft / 3500 Manual: 70 kW / 94 hp / 95 PS ( DIN ) / 5200 , torque: 148 Nm / 109 lb-ft / 3800 ...and running an old style auto will sap 10% power straight away (at least) See also, the Brochures from the Home page here. Funny how lots of information included except the power outputs (note different compression ratios auto/manual). Anyone remember arrival of ADR27A ? |
