Mk1 Escort Project
 

Hello all,

I must be out of my mind but i have just purchased a MK1 Escort as a project car. i can just imagine $$$ flying out the window.

I wanted to put an ST170 engine in but they are hard to find, however XR4 engine has popped up at a reasonable price.

are the Duratec engines compatible with the kits already available for the Zetec and ST170 engines?

what engine did it come with? a 1600 Kent can be super fun, and 5 speed boxes fit behind them pretty easily.

Plenty of options to fit Zetec and Duratec into Escorts. Not sure of the engineering requirements in your state but theres been plenty converted and licensed before so it is possible.

These guys have a good range for example but there are lots of others doing conversion parts in the UK so shop around.

Included two engines, 1.3l and a 2l pinto.
The 1.3l is ready to run the the other needs some work

that's interesting. they are very different engines, with the inlet and exhaust n different sides!

the 1.3 can be fun, and will get you moving but even a performance variant is pretty lame tbh and most good Kent engines are based off the 1.6. the 2.0 will easily get you 100hp.

Its a small world nowadays, most people will post but thats homework you'll have to do, as with pricing.

The conversions are a viable option when you think to build a pinto with comparative power will cost upwards of 10k unless you can do alot of the work
yourself. The conversion kits may be a bit of an outlay to start with, say 7k without shopping around but the engines themselves are a cheap as chips at wreckers, say $1000 to $1500 and easy enough to replace if they do go pop.

yes Engines, seem to be a dime a dozen for the Duratec at least, gearboxes on the other hand haven't seen many. i guess its part of the process research and patience.
