Default Earthquake - 7.1 off Fiji - Pacific Ocean

10.14am

Just on news, must see that US Geological Survey site.

10.18 - Fire Services personnel paged to stations. No chance of a Tsunami - too deep.

Perhaps a few warning triangles should be put out.
We can't have any aftershocks now can we?

One closer to home. Oneday do you think the coastal area's of Australia will see a Tsunami? Thankgod I live in Canberra :

Theres a new add on tv with a farmer who lost 6 children and 6 grandchildren. He is from Ache. I'm sure the Add said that he was 8 k's inland when the Tsunami hit And the water was over his house. That's freaky

You never know though ... it is possible ... Mother Nature is unpredictable.
If you live in a high area .... that's a good thing .. but when most of the infrastructure is in the lower areas on the coast ... that will have a flow-on effect (bad pun) for the rest of the society as well.

It'll still affect others in different ways.

I read somewhere that Sydney would be at high risk of tsunami damage if there were to be an undersea quake in the Tasman Sea off the coast of New Zealand. Because of the relatively short distance there would be very little warning.

it would be catastrophic if sydney had a sunami. lots of suburbs inland would go under and some on the coast wouldnt be affected.

Who is that Professor from I think Wollonggong Uni who has studied pre European tsunami events along the East Coast? Reckons strong evidence of HUGE previous events on the South Coast with large boulders set 80m up on hills, - boulders not geologically native to the position but from the shelf.

FordFan86 did so write this shaky day: "Perhaps a few warning triangles should be put out. We can't have any aftershocks now can we?".

No, your right FF86 - those Euro/World type would survive the buffeting, can't say the same for those made purely to the Aussie Standard though:-)
