Gum Tree 1 - XR8 0
This is my car after a trip to Cobram in Victoria, the wind was crazy and my car happened to be the target for this enormous tree branch. What a great way to start the new year. Thankfully it did not hit a tent or a person. There is damage to both quarter panels, the door, window is smashed and of course the bonnet.

Never ceases to amaze me how many people park or pitch tents under gum trees. Trouble just waiting to happen.

I heard of a xy gt driving in sydney when a tree fell on it!, with gum trees you never know and theyre bloody everywhere.

Yes you are right the main thing is no one is hurt, if you have been to the murray the whole stretch of the bank is covered my gum trees, the only way to avoid having one fall on your car is park it in the water. In the area I was in there was about 50 cars, mine just happened to be the one it hit. Any one know any reputable panel beaters in the eastern suburbs (vic) ?

As has been noted it is good that nobody was hurt and the car can be repaired. Best operators I've found in the Eastern suburbs are Carrs in Nunawading - they do a lot of the delaer prestige work so they are neither cheap or quick but you'll get a top job. Bit of bad luck there mate, hope she gets fixed good.
You don't even need wind for a gum tree to drop, I saw one fall down without a breath of wind when I was sleeper cutting years ago. Hence 'drop bears!!' Ed

a fella i know had a gum tree fall on his commadore, and it was written off, and it was in a supermarket car park. a week later they cut all of the hanging branches off the trees around the car park.

Thanks for the suggestions on smash repairers, I might be in touch Russ, they are a recomended repairer and have also fixed a friends car very well in the past. It all depends on how long I can be without the car for. There is nowhere to park that is not under a tree, these photos are a bit clearer and show what I mean. Also found out my excess is 1250, ouch. The guy on the phone said to me if the gum tree admits fault and pays you wont have to pay.
