Default Odd Sony Stereo Problem - LV MKII TDCi

Hi all,

Started the car this morning after turning it off while playing a playlist on my iPod last night.

Normally after the start the stereo will flick back from the iPod to the radio. It's done this since I bought the car last November, so I presume this is...normal.

Anyway this morning it decided to enter some Ford-branded version of the Twilight Zone where I could only turn it on or off, and it was stuck in the iPod mode...but while playing a track had no audio.

Apart from the clock function when the radio was off nothing else was functional and none of the other buttons functioned, plus not even a hiss out of the speakers. So I had the choice of off, or on and non-functional. Tried turning the car off and on, no change, except when turning the radio on it was very slooooooow to change the display to 'iPod'.

I ran out of time so I decided to leave it and go catch my train but when I returned this evening it was all working...

Any ideas and is the iPod/Radio thing at ignition indeed normal?

thks, Mick

The Radio in my Mk1 has it's own gremlins... It would jump several volume numbers back and forth with 1 touch of the steering wheel controls. Ford changed the control mast only for it to happen again a few weeks ago.

Last week my radio would not turn off at all. Everything worked, just not the off button....

The problem is, these issues happen 'every now and again'... They only changed my volume control mast after I showed them a video clip of the malfunction... should have taken a video of the on / off button not working...

My LV MkII is the same, the iPod will not give any sound unless I disconnect the 3.5mm jack and plug it back in again.. WTF! I have used a Thumb Drive in
the USB and has similar problems and will lock up the system. It seems to be a firmware issue, I asked Ford about it but they wouldn't know **** from Clay as far as the radio is concerned. I had a Fiesta WS Zetec and had much the same problems, they couldn't figure it out either. I would say it is normal and don't worry too much about it but you can ask Ford to replace it under warranty.

IIRC, the book for the LV says to change it from ipod to radio before turning the car/radio off. That being said I always turn mine off without doing it, and I'm yet to have a problem.
