Also a camber kit may be a good idea if you don't like the idea of replacing the rear tyres every 20,000

You would only need a rear camber kit (front has camber adjustment already), and even then it’s not a necessity. The camber on my car was only slightly out (although it’s an XR5 and it has a different suspension set up to yours, so it’s probably not a good guide), but as long as you rotate your tyres regularly, you will still get good mileage.

You should be able to find a mechanic who will fit them for $150 or so, and after getting a wheel alignment, probably get away with it for around $500 - $550. I’d offer to help you myself, but I don’t have the required gear, and because I had someone else do most of the work, I wouldn’t be 100% confident of what I was doing anyway.

Thanks for the offer I'll investigate!
Wish I'd saved the extra money to get the XR5...Insurance would hurt though!

Yep, if you're under 25 then it would be very painful, but for those of us on the wrong side of 25, it's actually not too bad. I'm only paying $670 per year.

Getting a xr5 turbo insured for an under 25 is only 2-4% more than a zetec, unless heaps of people that match your demographic in your area have crashed heaps of xr5turbos.

I'm very surprised at that, I thought the combination of the words “turbo” and “under 25”, automatically got the insurers alarm bells ringing, and they hike the premiums up no end. Some of the younger guys on the XR5T forum are paying between $1500 and $2000 per year from memory, surely they wouldn’t pay anywhere near that for a Zetec?

here's some info i used when changing the coils in my XR5, http://www.focushacks.com/index.php?modid=54

Very easy job to change the springs in the focus.

I didn't get rid of the pipe completely, I just dislodged it from its hole in the bottom of the airbox.

Theres 2 ways of getting rid of it, cutting it with a hacksaw and removing the whole second airbox. Cutting will make it hard to replace, Removing takes a lot of effort removing the wheel well guard and the corner under panel guard, and could lead to more frequent battery failures (this airbox supplies a bit of cool air to the battery box
Hey

i want to do the same thing you have done with your intake silencer, i have read what you did about 20 times but i'm still a bit lost. also does it make much of a difference in sound with the intake noise.

cheers

First year of owning the LX was $3100. NRMA were the only people who would insure me.
When insurance was up for renewal in Nov last year, I changed to AAMI, $2100 a year with $2000 excess...

Hi Guys

I have my Focus CL with the 17" Zetec Wheels. I want to get it lowered (slightly) as I think it sits too high on the wheels. I actually want it to look like factory height rather than 'looking' lowered. I know the Zetec sits around 10mm lower than the standard and I believe the XR5 is another 15 mm lower so I was hoping to lower it no more than 25mm but preferable around 15-20mm.

I have spoken to Pedders and there Sportsrider suspension lowers the car 35mm and I spoke to the distributors of the Eibach springs and they are lowered 30mm.

What would be my best option for lowering the car around 15-20mm?

Also if someone has a lowered Focus on the Factroy 17" could you post a side profile shot and let me know how much lower than the standard suspension it is?

Might be worth finding out what a set of genuine XR5 springs will set you back

Hey Aston.. go jump over to www.fordxr5turbo.com and post on the forum you might be looking for some XR5 springs.

A few people have changed to the eibachs so they might have some sitting in thier garages.
