Hi all,
Not a Focus owner, so didn't know the reason for this one, and would appreciate some help in identifying what it is. A friend owns a Focus (no idea of model/age etc) that has a cutout on the lower right side of the rear bumper. Behind this cutout is a internally threaded bolt/screw. What is this bolt/screw for? Do all Focus' have this and the cutout? Do they all have a slightly 'unfinished' appearance around the cutout as this one does? I asked our friend, but I suspect like the majority of young female drivers, she had no idea as to what it was or if it was ven a standard fit. Any help greatly appreciated. Craig H |

It's for a tow-hook.
On the jack in the boot, there'll be an eye bolt clipped onto the side of it. If you're unfortunate enough to break down, you screw that eye bolt in, and that's where you attach a tow rope to get a flat-tow. As for the cruddy paint finish around the cover it could be down to being a little roughly removed in the past.

From your post, it would be reasonable to interpret that the cutout normally has a cover that fits into the cutout? The car I saw did not have the cover, just the cutout. The young lass also commented that they (her parents) have another Focus at home which is exactly the same, so I presumed that the car came without the cover...... Craig H |

Weird. They may have been removed when the cars were being delivered new, I don't know why though.
It may seem a bit silly but tell them to have a rumage through the gloveboxes and under the floors in the boot just in case. Otherwise they might be able to buy the parts from ford. Be prepared to be offended by the price though. You could try wreckers too, but not too many have made it into their yards yet. If the cars were bought new however, ask ford to replace them. They should have been there in the first place.

Almost EVERY car (every make) has one, it just looks ugly when its missing. |
