After that happened we had a 500A Mega fuse on the whole system and that wire had to be secured in a particular way.

Wiring is the easiest way to burn your own car to the ground, I see a lot of aftermarket stereo installs with questionable practices.

It'll be interesting to see what the cause is, as it could be many many different things that could cause it. This car was probably pre production (like a Mondeo they have been sending out).

Yeah it most likely was a bastardized pre production, look how dark the tint is to hide the interior.

Still, not a good look, it always has me stumped how people find the root cause when that's all that's left.

I wonder if they still get the $500 test drive payment sure the car is looking a bit 2nd hand on return but the add does say we will pay $500 simply for taking a test drive.

In the pic the electric tailgate is open, would this open automatically in the event of a major failure/accident to enable the 3rd row an alternative exit point ?
Like some euro cars, all the doors unlock automatically when in an accident.
Did the jerno open the tailgate to get his bag and leave it open to "fan the flames"

Will make for an interesting review in writing
Was a great vehicle, "till it caught fire"

We would have to wonder that if the car was being tested by "One of News Corp Australia’s motoring journalists, Peter Barnwell" why didn't he write the article instead of Dowling.

(no reply necessary, we all know the answer )

Yeah the pr!ck should have close the rear tailgate after retrieving his stuff...That the first thing i'd be thinking is my car burst into flames.

"why do you have third degree burns on your hand?"

"Yeah, I thought I better close the door after escaping from a car fire, there's much less damage to the car now and my burns will heal OK. No I wasn't worried about and explosion I just wanted to save a Ford"

Could it have been caused by some equipment the testers had connected up on the battery to use during the testing?

Can happen to any car, my old Cortina did the same thing years ago, also had a car alarm in my old XB Coupe short out and catch fire, neighbour had his late model Landcruiser bust into flames as he was driving along recently.

It could be something as simple as leaving an oil cap off. Seen that cause fires before.

indeed , or it could have been started by a bit of debris getting caught on the exhaust , it could be anything.
