Hi Russell,

I'm sorry this has happened to you, and I hope you get it back in one piece.

If you feel comfortable, you should post as many details as you can about the car which might be unique. I actually remember your car when you posted here (or one of the other forums) after you recently got it. From memory, I think it had the remains of a towbar with the trailer light socket still attached (at least it did in '08). Little details like that would help to identify it, as well as the compliance plate/engine/chassis/rego numbers.

It would also be worth sending these details (plus some pictures) around the various Capri/Small Ford clubs and even many other non-specific car clubs. Most States/Territories will have a car club council which administers/umbrellas all the car clubs, and they would have a website/newsletter in which details could be included, and I imagine most (if not all) would do this for free. It may also be worth getting in touch with any local Drag / Street Machine clubs, as it may have been stolen to convert to a V8 or drag car. The vast majority of street machiners/drag guys are good guys, and they would have their ear to the ground on who's building what.

Did it happen during the day or overnight? Any suspect characters hanging around, or anyone in the past hassled you to buy it? I will certainly keep an eye out around the Canberra region and spread the word amoung all I know to keep an eye out.

Cheers

Jamie

Sorry to hear the bad news. If it is any consolation, Capri's are not really sought after vehicles for rebirthing (according to a mate in the Police). And we all know parts are somewhat scarce. Probably joy riders.

Just under two yrs ago I had my Prelude 4WS stolen (owned 9yrs, 194K kms). I duly reported it, and it was found (locally) 10 days later after some lads ran off after an accident.

It is for these reasons we have insurance. Hopefully you are insured, and now you just have to get the Ins Coy to recognise it was not a put-up job. In my case, their tone changed dramatically when the vehicle finally turned up, thanks to the accident witnesses and police report.

As suggested above, publicise as many details as possible. Numbers, photos, unusual aspects of the car. Make it as hard as possible for the low-lifes to dispose of it for monetary gain.

I feel for you, been there myself. Brown stuff happens unfortunately. 'Tho nothing will ever replace one that has been stolen.

Good luck and fingers crossed for safe return......

Default Car Recovered

Thanks fellas for the advice and support.
The car was recovered by police after a phone tip off about it being left in nth east suburbs awaiting pick up. ??
The theiving mongrels broke open the ignition and attempted hotwiring but I dont know if they got it started as there was a tow rope wrapped around the front swaybar no other damage.
I couldn't start it with the key.
Whats the best to get fingerprint powder off?
I will be finding more secure accomodation for it today. It also made me realise I have it under insured and will fix that asap.
I have to give credit to SAPOL and Shannons they have been great all day.
Cheers Fordies.

Congrats on the return of the love of your life. Sounds like minor hassles to get it back in order for use again.
Now.......time for immobilisers, secret switches, anchor chains, removing the distributor cap whenever you park it (because they don't match anything else..)
Lock up your baby and keep it safe at night !!
Good news !!
p.s. have the found the scum - would be nice to round off the experience in a positive way

PHEW!!!

That great news. I had my fingers crossed for a happy ending when I saw this thread - so often they are never seen again.

When mine is finally finished it will have every security trick in the book. It would kill me for some lowlife to pinch it after all the work I have put into it.

Cheers,

Steve

Thats great news mate. I really felt for you. I had a Fairmont GXL stolen and got it back in bits around 1987. I was heart broken.

Good luck

Steve

PS sold my Mk1 last month, got a small fortune for it.
