hehe... didnt see the au bit.

was reasonable b4, but basically rebuilt from bare block...( and new everything within ) if i'd know it was going to cost that much i woulda paid the labour bill, put everything in the ute and put a stock motor and supercharger on it!

but i'm selling it and buying an AU3 ute,Pursuit 250

theres room in the engine bay and its not such big heavy arsed motor!
really want a BA XR8 ute, but with a 347 stroker.....

I think the latest addition of the wheels and tyres has tipped me into the five figure mark by now! It can't be good when you've spent more on the car in mods than the purchase price of the car itself! :

For my wagon apart from the usual services, window tinting the only big splurge was the wheels BF2 XR 18" @ $890 on ebay.

I just bought a brand new radiator in ford box with genuine hoses for $21.80 ebay of course

I thought that was pretty good!!!!!!!!!!!!! : :

I held off commenting in this thread about 12 months ago because the car was not complete (will it ever be?), but just for $hits and giggles, I have added up some pretty accurate (though not complete) numbers to give a close approximated idea on mine:

T1 TS50: $18,000
Engine (Landed): $12,000
Gearbox, Clutch and install kit: $9,400
Assorted parts from FTG auto: ~ $1,200
Assorted parts from Ford: ~ $2,000
Assorted parts from Lethal Performance (USA- landed): $2,700
Ford GT Rims: (landed) $2,600
Bonnet: $1,800
Suspension: $950
Alloy fabbed tanks (Total to date): ~ $2,500
Brembo kit: $5,800
Exhaust (two versions): $3,200
Engineering costs (total): $945
Blower pulley upgrade kit (landed): $670
KB Mammoth blower kit: $9,500
MSD ignition setup (including one fried MSD DIS4): $1,300
Upgraded Driveshaft: $1,050
Fuel system components (including pumps, hose and fittings): ~ $2,400
Contractor labour (Electricians/Mark) : $3,200
Boot floor section: ~ $1,100
Retrimmed steering wheel: $450

SUBTOTAL: $82,765

Plus a LOT of my labour

Hmmm, One of a kind hey........... :togo:

I wonder if it will be worth more than an FG GT-E in 5 years time?

Most of here that do mods, do it for the fun factor.

I know thats why I do it. I get personal satisfaction in making my car personalised to suit me.

Is this the same with you?

I'll probably regret working this out but:-

Brumby bar + driving lights, del, painted - $800
RJR rims/tyres - $400
Adrenalin rims/tyres - $300
XR6 springs $100
Touring springs/shocks - $300
Sony headunit - $450
JVC headunit - $250
Wiring/fuses etc - $100
Hertz front splits - $150

Custom sub box - $80
Cat10 - $200
Alpine amp - $180
Alpine mono amp - $150
Interior custom mats - $50
F and R slotted rotors - $200?
XR front bar/headlights - $450
Steering wheel - $100
BA pedal covers - $50
Exhaust - $500
Tint - $300

Which is $4700 - say $5000 with the various bits and pieces that I missed and the bits that go with fitting that stuff...

I tend to buy s/h or ebay so I guess it's ok for the improvements.

Last edited by ronwest; 10-02-2009 at 11:51 AM. Reason: Add a couple of bits

Bog standard immaculate AUII Forte bought 12 months ago, 74,000km, $9000
Water pumps and seals done under warranty;
Exhaust system $300 - should have been a warranty job but I didn't even remember until months after;
Window tinting $200
Cruise control $175
replaced head unit with Pioneer unit from my Fairlane.

Promised myself I wouldn't touch it for the first year, but it's now going to get a set of Pacemaker extractors and a new windshield as the old one has a bit of sand blasting.

Oil and filter changes, trannie service and so on, perhaps another $400 over the 15,000km I've driven it.

Compared to my NC Fairlane Ghia V8 - 10 years owned, total mileage when sold 280,000km (bought with 130,000km on the clock) and $23,000 in maintenance and repairs (no mods), $1000 on sound system, and my XE Fairmont - 260,000 when sold (140,000km when bought) 12 years owned, $14,000 in repairs and maintenance. That did have another $1000 or so in headers and exhaust and $1500 in a Pioneer system and stacker.

Love the AU - feels small and light compared to our company's BA/BF XTs which seem to me to be very much like the Fairlane in general feel. Nice not having all the electronics that are in the newer models and the Pacemakers should lift the midrange nicely to make it perfect. Brakes are fine, suspension is adequate, very little wind or tyre noise and one of the most relaxing long distance cruisers I've driven.

Meh its not about the car its more a project for me to complete doing most of the work myself and not paying someone to do it., Also there is not much left that is AU1 on the car. I knew when i started doing the mods last year that i wouldnt recoup the cost so I wont be selling it..
