Default Worlds fastest 4 door sedan.

-YES! thats 8 exhaust pipes in total!!

Drive.com.au

This is the Bugatti Galibier, the car destined to be the world’s fastest sedan.

The Volkswagen-owned supercar maker has built a prototype of the new sedan to gauge customer reaction to the fast-back four-door sedan. If the feedback is positive, the project will go ahead.

The Galibier four-door is named after a hill that makes up part of the Tour de France road course. It uses the same 8.0-litre W16 engine as the two-door Veyron supercar, which is capable of speeds of more than 400km/h.

There are some differences to the Veyron, though. The Galibier drops the quad-turbos in favour of a pair of mechanical superchargers, and the engine is mounted in the front of the car rather than behind the seats.

The Galibier uses four-wheel drive, and reports suggest it will produce somewhere in the region of 600kW and more than 1000Nm of torque.

The car is expected to be fitted with a regular eight-speed automatic transmission, rather than the seven-speed dual-clutch version fitted to the Veyron.

Inside, brown leather abounds, with some of the finest fit and finish work around. There are some neat touches, like the flip-away clock and the circular speedometer that reads all the way up to 390km/h.

There’s even an optional range of hand-made leather luggage to match the interior - though it’s probably likely to set you back about the cost of a Commodore. Per bag.

The Galibier is expected to be somewhere in the $2 million range if it indeed does make it to production, and Bugatti are reportedly keen to get the first of up to 300 Galibiers on the road by 2013.

Bugatti’s Veyron production run is scheduled to end in 2012, so the Galibier could well be its successor.

Somehow i doubt FPV will claim the title the Phase 3 did back in its time

A little but for $2mill you would think it could look a little better.

I don't think I could hack the styling, even if it was $45,000.

600kW for 2 million dollars? That's $3,333 per kilowatt. Compare that to $185 per kilowatt for an XR6 turbo.

Bugatti would do well to remember how they went bankrupt the first time. You can charge too much, even to the aristocracy. Yes Porsche GT2s, Fazzas are out of this world expensive but this is ridiculous.

Wonder if you could tow a caravan at 250 km/hour with one of these? There's one for Top Gear.

Yeah, you wouldn't want to leave it out in a hail storm. A few dints might give it some character though.

Eight pipes is a little excessive, but I guess that's what this car is all about. I'm wondering how much it will weigh, considering the smaller two seat Veyron is already 2 tonnes..

For a twin supercharged 8.0 litre engine 600 kW is actually pretty ordinary in that price range.

Might have to install rear wheel steering, I don't think the front wheels would spend much time on the road!

In all seriousness, it would go like the clappers but I imagine the engine would compromise handling a lot.

Hidious. For 2m I reckon I could stock a 10 car garage full of the best muscle cars ever made and I know which would be more fun... Should we take the GT500 or the '63 Stingray Corvette tonight? Mmmm

Car looks good, but $2,000k is ridiculous.
What do you get? Exclusivity...a nice car, but primarily exclusivity.
Might just go and take the Galibier down the milk bar. I'm out of eggs.

For much less than 2 million, can't one hire a private engineer and build their own car that nobody else could own?

Probably right there Mik.

Personally i think it looks great. It's supposed to be something unlike anything else on the road. That's why you pay so much.

Only gripe with the looks is that maybe the front is a bit too flat faced, from the side the front looks kinda like an Audi A8. Needs a bit more sleekness to it instead of the bulldog look.

I do not care how much they cost, or if people think it is ridiculous or hideous. I am just glad too see more and more of these sort of boundary pushing vehicles being designed AND manufactured, it is great for us enthusiasts. These things make designers of regular consumer vehicles work a bit harder to get our dough, and not just pump out more of the same boring, high margin low soul offerings.

By the way, love the backlit logo's on the wheels, great touch.
