Default Motorsport museum in ipswich

G'day all,

Doing a family mid year holiday in brisbane at the moment and thinking of checking out the Motorsport museum in Ipswich. Just wondering has anyone else been? Is it worth the drive out there? Anywhere else I, (sorry should say the family ;) ) should visit that's automotive related?

Cheers

Lukee

Hey mate!! There is no motorsport museum at Ipswich that I am aware of. I only know of 2 places where you can see historic cars around the Brisbane area, one is the Dick Johnson Racing facility about halfway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. I have been to this one a few years ago and it had a few of Dicks old racers,.... Tru-Blu and the Greens Tuff and a couple of others, but not sure he has them there anymore??
The Bowdens have bought them and that's the only other place I can think of. I have never been to Bowdens and its not a matter of just showing up to see the cars I believe. They have allocated days when you can go and they are about an hour further north of Brisbane at Buderim like buggerlugs said!!

Ipswich has a rail/train museum, popular with kids.

This is the one I'm thinking of http://www.qldmotorsportmuseum.org/pages/12alhome.html but trains would probably keep my boy more entertained!

It may be the Ipswich art gallery you may have heard of. Quite often they change the overall theme and it's been auto and motorsports quite often. They go all out and is worth it. (My favourite was robot week where they held a full on Robot Wars championship inside a huge Perspex safety box. That was sweet) I think at the moment it's some sort of shadow puppet extravaganza? The train museum is also supposed to be very good. Ipswich as a whole is a nice pretty city to visit anyway. (There's an amazing little tree house Forrest setup with two little multi story castles amoung the trees. its down beside the main river that runs thru town. I would have killed to play there as a kid....still didn't stop me now tho)
Other then that I've not heard of any specific full time motor museums in Ipswich!
Good luck

Reading that link, it looks like it's someone trying to organise tours of collections or maybe a straight out scam.
On the other hand, the train museum is legit and a great place to take the kids.

No, there is one in the mall, as the website suggests. Its 2 or 3 shops joined together. Ive walked around it, had a peak in through the glass. They have a few cars in there, memorabilia, etc, but worth a special drive out to look? Probably not. Its not really a museum as such. Theres only about 6 cars in there IIRC, and im not sure if they are the real deal.

Its pretty much a shop-front for a motorsports library if your after some history on an old race care your building.

Update - rainy day up here so decided to drive out to Ipswich, didn't make it in to the Motorsport museum but went to the train museum, great recommendation, the young boy (and old boy) loved it. Thanks for the idea!

There is most certainly a motorsport museum in Ipswich. And it's worth a look. Ian is the name of the guy who runs it. Good bloke. Certainly not a scam of any kind.
