Default LS wiper fix

The standard replacement wipers for my LS has been quoted as $90 each side. Clearly this is not acceptable for a consumable item so I let the local dealer replace the rubber blades but as we all know this only lasts a week or so before they start chattering again.

Anyhoo I purchased Ryco TB450 and TB560 which are aftermarket for the previous model Focus. to get them to fit you simply chuck out the bag of clips and brackets and drill out the holes to fit over the wiper arm posts.

then off to bunnings to buy C clips. If you don't want to use C clips you can stuff a piece of plastic tubing over the post - this is to stop the wiper from working it's way off the arm.

Mine is working fine and all I need to do now is replace the rubber blade for $10.

complications:- wind noise is increased slightly and the drivers side is slightly shorter so doesnt sweep to the top of the screen.

Enjoy

Steve

After being told the same $90 story, I just rang Ford spare parts (at the very same dealership where I get my Focus serviced) and the quoted me $20 for the entire front set, which were fitted at the next service for free.

Better yet get Bosch Aerotwins from your local supercheap auto which are identical to the LS-LV wipers

I've never been able to find a replacement for the LS.

So if Bosch does have them I will get some.

this be a red herring.

Bosch are about $26 each. Also if my memory serves me correctly you can just the blade insert afterwards

The Bosch Cattle Dog says:-
Focus 08/1998 to 05/2005 can use:-
Driver Side - Aerotwin BBA550
Co-pilot side - Aerotwin BBA475

Looks okay to me

As in: direct replacement for LS/LT/LV model, despite what the catalog says?

yeah should just check the length of your own wipers and check the length of the ones you are going to buy.

Whatever really works for you! If the mod is working great, why fix it?

Yes the genuine replacement wiper blades are not cheep, but they are a better choice than the crap replacement inserts which shudder across the screen, Ford developed this type of wiper blade to have better NVH. Genuine is the best choice IMO.

do the original blades shudder because there is no metal frame forcing pressure on the glass causing vibration?
