Default Shafted !!!

My Ute has been shafted...

I was driving home and noticed a noise.
Almost like a collapsed wheel bearing. :

I pulled over for a bit of a look.
Shook the rear end had a look under neath.
Couldn't see anything.:

Continued to drive home.
Noise was getting slightly worse, Had all sorts of things going through my mind, Diff, Axle, Couldn't be the new gear box or clutch, ect.
Was real bad when i drove off from the last set of lights around the corner from my place. :

Got it home, Jacked up the ar$e end. Shook the wheels, all seemed fine.
Then I turned the wheels. :
There was the noise... I thought hmmm a CV in the tail shaft, I have done that before.
So I climbed under the Ute and grabbed the tail shaft to give it a spin.
Not a CV, I notice the shaft just sort of hanging in the middle section resting on the exhaust....

Talk about shafted..... :

The center bearing/ hanger thing has parted company with its self

Oh well just another day in my life of , Wonder what I have broken now. :

Cheers......Kev

lol, once you start playing with cars it's just a matter of patching them up. Fix it with a 9 inch and a single piece 3.5 inch tail shaft.. ( and a loop for when you break that too ! )

Kev you have been getting shafted for a while now :yeees:
Try a one piece tail shaft might be a cheaper and more reliable option.

Well you can get whoosha to fix it now!

Is there nothing you havent replaced Kev? Jeff's suggestion could be good, as long as strengthening the tailshaft up doesnt create a weak spot somewhere else

Is your missus getting sick of you replacing parts yet? Not really a good time of year to be chasing car parts, hope you get it sorted quickly.

You should get a job in fords product evaluation test division

I've replaced a tailshaft in a standard xr8 manual sedan for the same failure, car belonged to a middle aged woman...... who let her 18 yo son drive it daily.... also needed a full set of diff bushes, the diff itself and a clutch... we advised her to take the keys off her son

Well after a couple set backs, Im on the road again....

Why does nothing ever go easy??

Dropped the shaft off last week. No probs.
New centralising bearing...sweet.

Couldnt get it balanced last week as the guy was still on holidays.
Didnt matter, I didnt expect it so quick.

Received a phone call this morn.
Cant balance the shaft as they need my Yoke and doughnut (black rubber disc thing).

Bugger, took an hour off work raced home got it and dropped it off.
They tell me doughnut is not in very good condition.
Had a feeling this may have been stuffed so no great supprise.
New one.....Sweet.

Get another call this arvo...
The rear CV is stuffed and the shaft wont balance properly..

Gr@#$*&^%@#$ moment of venting....

Ok put a new one on....

So after a few set backs,

It was balanced up and delivered to me at work by 2.30 today...
(Helps when you know them)

Great work by the guys at Hardy Spicer in Dandy.

No such thing as bulletproof when you are putting near 420kw to the road, 420rwkw that is.
