I have a 99 au lane with 18 inch wheels on it... i need new tyres desperately but can't afford much....there is a tyre shop that will fit them for $70 each... I currently have 245/40/18 on the front and 245/45/18 on the rear....would 255/40/18 fit it?

They would but as the tyre is really too wide for the rim you might feel the rear end walking around as you corner because you will have some flex in the walls of the tyre.
Also, if there is too much difference in the rolling diameter of the tyre between the front & rear you will get ABS warning light on. Might not happen with the sizes you have there but something to be aware of
