hey guys my steering makes a cracking sort of noise when steering from lock to lock in a stationary position but fine whilst driving. I know this will probably be the rack on its way out but if it was the rack would the noise happen even with the engine off and steering manually?

There was a recall on SERI and SERII to ensure the rack is secure.
I would seek professional advice if I was uncertain about what was going on with my steering!

Hi.
Hope that you already have worked out where the noise is comming/came from. My wife's S3 had a noise that I first thought was the steering rack, ended up being the D bushes on the sway bar where dry. A little bit of graphite grease and no more noise. Hope that may help you. |
