Default Whats Going on under the Bonnet!

Hey all thought i would let you guys know whats going to be happening with my car as soon as i finish it as im only going to be doing it after hrs at work.

Things ive bought: 347 stroker kit consisting of Scat cast steel crank, H-beam rods, speedpro .030 flat top pistons with moly coating, King engine bearings mains and rods, Arp main stud kit, hi performance cam bearings.

Total cost so far $1350. The total cost for the whole bottom end will be $1650 being balanced with a new oil pump and windage tray.

Im starting to machine it tomorrow after work as its in the hot tank tonight.
Tomorrow i may bore and hone the block if i get time and go from there.

I cant wait to have her in the car it should be fun, but i will let yas all know when its done.

Shaun.

Being the owner of a 347 AU i am sure you'll love it, except the power bug bites and you'll want a blower as well, take it from me!

What intake, cam, exhuast, MAF, ECU, injectors etc etc do you plan to use (as stated by many before, thats there the $$$$ goes! The "stroking" is the "cheap" part!)

Ive already done exhaust which will be ok for a fairly mod stroker twin 2 1/2 for now will go bigger as needed, i have a 90maf now and can get tbs cheap enough but will see how it goes on the 70mm for now, inj are 24lbs for now but will be upgraded if needed, already have a flash tuner, i can get a set of alloy heads cheap aswell but am doing the good foundation for now. With heads and new intake it will still cost me under $4000 cost through work. There is so much mark up on parts its not funny and unless your in the trade you will never know how cheap things really are.

The cam im after some opinions for now but i already have a crow cam at work sitting around its specs are :
IN.29/77
EX.79/27
286 286
216 216 at .050
.505".505" with 1.6 but with the 1.72 R/R i have its .540" on both IN/EX
1800rpm to 5800rpm.

Comp ratio is gonna be 10.5

Shaun.

I'd go for a lot more duration than that in a stroker. Remember that rpm range will be for a 302 not a 347...

Are you definitely getting the alloy heads? Which ones? It may be easier to decide now, so that you can select a suitable cam and sort piston to valve clearance, pushrod length and whatever else before the engines assembled and in the car.

Should be alot of fun with a 347 in it

Ok been a long time before an update but im almost ready now, should be in by the next weekend.

The intake i chose is the edelbrock rpm 11 performer 5.0 part no is ED7123. The heads are still the gt40p's but are fairly modified with yella terra 1.72's fitted aswell they are basically taken from my 7000km old 5L and transplanted onto this 347. The cost however has come out supprisingly cheap, i sold my 5L short and explorer intake and have come out square so i basically exhanged a 5L for a 5.6L with new intake. Power im hoping for is around the 220-240rwkw but i dont know until i dyno it.

Some pics of the build and how it is now at work awaiting me to take it home.

Also could a mod please move this to the build-up threads please.

Shaun.

The manifold defenantly looks the part, it uses the v section like the trickflow's do. Looking inside the manifold the runners are all tuned where as the explorer one the air is delivered through the centre of all ports and the 2 runners closest to the tb will get better flow, Where with this one the air gets delivered through the v and then is all even through to all 8 runners. Ill keep you's posted on how i go.

It's only upside down when viewing it from the front of the car looking back. When viewing from the drivers seat, it is the right way round! LOL.

Looking good.

just wondering if u put a girdle on the mains? cos i got a quote on a stroker kit and he ran through it all with me and showed me the girdle which sounds like a good idea, is it needed? or is it for justin(case) plus im building mine with low comp pistons to strap a s/c on later cos i know the power bug will bite sooner or later!!! sounds like your onto a good thing doing it all urself though i'd love to have all the machining stuff to play with.

The beast is alive and breathing, I haven't got it tuned as yet but it will be very soon so ill have some numbers. Its super responsive and pulls like a train. I was at a set of lights before and took off normal just breathing on the accellerator and thought i would just give it a quick tap probably about 10mm more of pedal and what do you know im burning rubber, click it to 2nd and just pushes me into the seat.

All in all im very happy with what has came of this and cant wait for the tune and numbers.

Will let you know phil, i would say in a week or 2, once its all tuned and running 100% i will be hitting the track to see what it can do.

For now i am going to be leaving the factory t3 headers on to see how much i can get out of them, the rest of the system is a twin 2 1/2 system, Sounds very very nice. I believe it will break the 200rwkw with the std headers.

I am just amazed at how the car will smoke the wheels before the stall has even reached its lock point, not that im trying but its just a fine line between nice take off and all over the place.
My tally so far for this whole setup is $250 i have spent out of my pocket, plus more for tuning when i can take it in.

Its turned out real well so far, dont get me wrong tho the 5L was really something and there wasnt a day that i was dissapointed with how it went, But this 5.6L is just something else all together and was built purely for it was the right time to do something else in my spare time at work. If this one is as good as the 5L has been to me then i will be a happy camper.

Lol if i could i would, but i wouldnt have a job for much longer. It only worked out cheap because i did all the machining, bluprinting, dummy assembly and the final assembly, so i really only paid for parts and even them i got heavily discounted, its like if your a spray painter you will only pay for the materials that would be cheap and spray it yourself.

The comp is on the shy side of 10.5 and im still using the gt40p's which i did a bowl/chamber and also raised the exhaust port a bit. One piece stainless valves. They were on my 5L and i just put them on as it had only done 7000kms. First i wanna see how much the 40p's can make and down the track who knows where it'll lead.
