Sun burnt :-(

I was at the V8's on saturday and sunday down at the island, and i was sunburnt really bad on my face and neck. I put cream stuff the lady and the shop recermended but it hasent done any good. My skin is now starting to peel and is really sore.

The funny thing was down at the track it was jumper and pants weather so it wasent overally hot, the sun just must of had a huge amount of kick in it all day. This is why i didnt apply sunscreen all weekend.

Does anyone have any ways in which i can lesson the peeling or ways you can make your skin not peel after being burnt.

My friend I dont feel you will be able to stop the peeling .. you have burnt your face but you can go out and buy that aloe vera gel and put that on and at least the new layers of skin will be protected.

I feel very sorry for you as it is going to hurt like hell.

Aloe Vera gel. Wont stop the peeling, but makes your skin feel a lot better. Also put it on straight away if you think that you are burnt.

yeh me too! Badly burnt and starting to peel today. Bloody useless weather people said it was going to be cloudy. Didn't feel the burn until i was driving home....then in the shower.....ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

try applying Skin Repair....... I find that helps. Aloe Verra only helps cool your skin.

The same happened to me at Symonds Plains, I got a real bad case of it. It took a week before I looked anywhere normal, I didnt use anything for it though. I was lucky that I was able to stay home all week.

My other half got me on to some herbal cream for burns - It's by Martin & Pleasance, and reduces peeling, takes sting out and cools it down. It's really effective, and it's available from some pharmacy's and health stores.

Tip I got from one of my friends (71 year old) to lessen pain and peeling

Have a shower at normal temperature and slowly make it hotter and hotter to the point where your skin can't withstand it and then get out, dry and apply any skin care product
I use sorbolene cream all the time.

works for me every time.
Wind burn can be just as bad

Yeah im thinking this was some kind of wind burn, because i was out in the sun for about 6 hours on each of the days, ive never been this burnt before being outside for the same amounts of time before.

yeah my head and face got really badly burnt at PI, top of the head started to blister on Monday. Today the skin has tightened ready for the goldmember peel

Being bald/shaved head didn't help at all.

I have been through two tubes of the after sun gel and it has been a dream, cooled down the head.

My face is starting to blister and crack its that dry, my neck is tanning over so its not as bad. Lucky i didnt get my arms and legs burnt also.

There is a thing called the UV index you know.

From BOM

Forecasting the intensity of UV at ground level takes into account information on the time of day, date, latitude, amount of cloud, altitude, presence of haze and ozone concentrations. The Bureau of Meteorology, in conjunction with the Cooperative Research Centre for Southern Hemisphere Meteorology, developed a global computer model that predicts ozone concentration, and calculates the intensity of UV radiation expected to reach the ground at any point. The forecast radiation intensity is converted to an index that estimates the maximum UV intensity for midday - assuming cloud-free skies. Forecasters then apply a correction factor for the expected cloud coverage. Cloudy days deceive many people into thinking the danger of UV radiation is minimal. Cloud affects the strength of radiation reaching the ground in complex ways. Most clouds block some UV radiation, but the degree of protection depends on the type and amount of cloud. Some clouds can actually increase the UV intensity on the ground by reflecting and refracting the sun's rays. People can also be caught unawares when a small break in an overcast deck of clouds allows a brief burst of intense radiation to reach the ground. Cold air can also be deceptive as temperature is not directly related to UV intensity. Skiers should take particular care as reflective snow on the ground and high altitude raise the UV Index significantly relative to its value at sea level.

and theres this new mist spray you can get if the pain is a bit much

Could be a case of sun and WIND burn. It is coming into summer, so staying out any way for an extended perios of time is asking for trouble

Burn it off, sooner it comes off the quicker recovery is. Shower as hot as you can stand it.

There used to be this stuff called "Nice N Icy", it was like a sunburn cream that was kept in the fridge, it was great for those really red bunt bits

Dont know why they stopped selling it

There is no such thing as wind burn, how hot do you reckon the wind would have to be to burn your skin? It is UVR from the sun that burns.

See, this is why its good to have..... 'Indigenous blood' running through your body.

I can sit out in the sun for 5 mins and be ALOT browner than what I was before. Its great!

Only place I burn is my nose!

I've heard the hot shower thing before. I can't stand the pain, but it works.

As for peeling skin, not sure. Maybe let it peel...???

Heh yeah there is such thing as the UV index. Just because it's not-overly hot or overcast doesn't mean you won't burn.

The most painful time in my life would have been when I got sunburnt all over. I couldn't sleep, it itches like hell but you can't scratch it because it hurts so much. Argh! Aloe Vera helped soothed the pain. Time will take its toll.

By the way, my oldest brother who is constantly travelling and been to most places in the world is still adament that our Melbourne sun is the harshest.

Cut a tomato in half and rub it into the effected area...the acids in the tomato bring out the sting in the burn.....( I know you are all saying bullsh1t but hey! it works)

Solorcaine (?) is really good for the pain, its a local antithestic, wont stop peeling, but will help you get a good night sleep.

I know it isnt much comfort now but whenever you get Sunburn, COLD water and LOTS of it. Will stop peeling and bring the Temp down. Sorry for you about the peeling :(

solorcaine is great stuff. unfortunately it has to be kept in the fridge, and even then has a very short shelf life. Its horrendously expensive given that you end up having to throw most of it out because it goes off. But is really does work brilliantly.
