Default AU wont idle

Hey guys , I replaced the alternator on my AU yesterday no problem except now the car wont idle .....I am not sure if its related to the alternator or not.

the red light on the dash has gone off and the voltmeter on the dash is reading normal again like its charging ....it runs and revs fine with no missing but now as soon as I take my foot of the gas it stalls......

the engine has done 254,000 k's and until now never let me down in 4 years and 120,000 km's ......

did you d/c the battery when replacing the alternator? if you did, try doing the relearn procedure. it may also be worth cleaning out the isc solenoid and around the throttle body with carby cleaner

idle speed controller. the big (well not that big) canister looking thing that sits on top of the throttle body with a wire hanging out of it

idle with in in drive 2 mins ac on
idle in neutral for 2 mins ac on
idle in drive 2 mins ac off
idle in neutral 2 mins ac off
go for a drive for 10mins at varying throttle positions.

when this happened to my car turned out the PCM had fried, all due to a alternator failure causing a power surge. but i'd be tempted to think the alternator you put in is dodgy.

I'm pretty sure the alternator (from wreckers) I put in yesterday is working ok.....I have driven it 4 or 5 times today and it IS charging the battery....

PCM?

I will buy some carby cleaner tomorrow and attack the throttle body

ecu normally in a i6. powertrain control module...does it idle at all or do you have to even rev it when you start it?

as for the reset, as above is close enough, normally in park a/c off 2 min, drive a/c off 2 min, park a/c on 2 min, drive a/c on 2 min, then drive for a few km

It starts and then stalls straight after.......I have cleaned out the throttle body but has made no difference......I cant do the reset procedure because the car wont idle..

I really need to get a fix on this guys without going to a mechanic.....so how do i check the pcm?

odd question, is the lead on the ISC connected and make sure there's nothing blocking the connection.

did u clean the ISC itself? ie did u remove and cleaned the gung out of it? as a short term solution you can set base idle through teh stop screw but thats last resort
