Tyres for zetec wheels,

Just curious what tyres come on the ''old'' focus zetec wheels.

and before teki jumps in and tells me they fit the fiesta...
i JUST want to know what tyres they come with ie 195/45/16

any other details like the tyre manufacturer would be welcome.. are they goodyears???

thanks for the info, i was hoping theyd be 40 or 45 profile.

im guessing it will put my speedo out a few kmph since my stockies are 195/50/15

one more question...

are the Goodyear Eagle NCT 5 Eco a good tyre? how do people rate them on the forum

They will put your speedo out Mitch, as the rolling diameter of the tyre will be significantly raised. The only thing you can do is to go out and look for a set of 205/45/R16 Tyres, as this keeps the factory rolling diameter to the tolerated limits (As Fez's come optional with 16"s).

I don't think much of the goodyears, there's a lot of cheaper tyres that do a much better job. If you want to spend that kind of money look at Yokohama.

Mine were Goodyear Eagle F1 from the factory on MP3 alloys. I found them pretty good

They'd be the old GS-D2s. A little ho hum as a tyre, but reasonable wet performance. Fairly distinctive tread pattern though.

The GS-D3s (Eagle F1s) are a great tyre - superb in the wet and now pretty darned fine in the dry too. They've won a few tyre tests since launch, and they're reasonably priced for what is a high performance tyre. If you like your corners and twisty drives, they're a great choice. They are available as 195/45R16 84Vs. A nice feature is that they have rim protectors in the sidewall.

There are also the Goodyear Revspec RS-02s, but unfortunately they're not in your size.

Actually, another thing I'll add about the GS-D3s. They're a nice chatty tyre, the solid centre ridge helps with steering feel. The limit is fairly progressive, they won't suddenly let go on you and overall as a driver's tyre, they're nice in that you get a good deal of communication.

No worries

Apart from improving the person behind the wheel, tyres are the best performance upgrade you can make to a car, IMHO. Especially if you're the type who likes zipping around on a twisty road, rather than pure straight line speed.

The stock Goodyears on the 16's on an LR Focus Zetec are rubbish. Good only in the wet and they're fairly quiet and comfortable, but they really aren't any good at grippy stuff in the dry. Honest but for the money, rubbish. I paid $20-30 per tyre more at replacement time and got some Michelin Pilot Preceda tyres which crap all over the stockers in the dry and are comparable in the wet. Have also heard great things about the Goodyears.

Ouch... those Michelins must have set you back a fair bit! I know with another forum im on.... they are all tossing up between the BFG G-Force Sport (owned by Michelin now) and the Pilot Preceda.

BFG G-Force for the Focus after a fair bit of testing

Cool. Thats around about right for a 50 series. NO 50 Series are re-inforced. Only the 45 series in 205/45R16 (for 16 inch...) are re-inforced. Hence im pretty sure they cost more then $220 (Did when i was looking!)

Also, the BFGs i have are doing just great at the moment. Quite happy with them. They arent too soft (great for lasting a little longer!), yet they grip pretty hard, esp in the wet! (well, compared to what i had before). Lets just say it managed to keep my Fiesta going great in the wet on a cruise i went on. What was better, was the day cleared up so i got to see it in the wet and dry. I must say it does well in the wet, and quite good in the dry too!

If you are in Sydney I run Fasty's tyre and mechanical. My book tells you what you can change to without changing speedo and so forth, I am also one of the best in town for prices!!

I'd also highly recommend Don Cornell's Tyrepower in Bexley. 178 Stoney Creek Rd. Highly recommended from others and every time a great service and good price.

Any of them running Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s?

The Pilot Preceda has been beaten twice over the past two years by the GS-D3 (available in the Fiesta's size) and the Revspec RS-02 (not available in the Fiesta's size) in Wheels' annual tyre tests. I haven't heard any qualms about the methodology of the tests.

A friend of mine used to run the Precedas - great in the dry, but nothing special in the wet. Michelin tyres are often biased towards dry performance. He's running GS-D3s now and it looks like they'll be the first tyres he buys two sets of, that's how happy he's with them.
