At the moment I can either get an EB XR8 with 120,000km, auto and aftermarket cruise, sunroof, nothing else, or an AU, approx 80,000km, auto and stock standard everything else.
Which would you prefer and why? |

If the AU is a series 2 or 3, then definately the AU. Why? Simply because my rule of thumb when buying cars and similar things is always buy the newest you can get.

Get the AU just cos its newer and probably goes just as hard. Which do you prefer driving?

Yeah the AU is nice drives well and has been looked after, and the XR8 drives nice too and is in great condition for age, really comfy but doesnt seem to have as much grunt as I expected. I dont know. The AU would look nicer to with 19's and a nice kit.....

hmmmm its a hard one. I used to have a eb xr8, was a very fun car to drive. Just depends what you want, if ya want a car thats fun to drive and has more power go the eb. If you want a smooth, quiet and overal a much more refined car go the au. Plus a ebxr8 looks much better than a stock au imo. Im not a fan of the au, only the xr's and ts.

I posted these pics a few days ago and was dead set on getting the EB. However the AU has come to light and I rekon I can mod it a little more/better than the EB

it is definitely a very clean looking eb, but as has been said above, the au is newer (although the eb does have considerably low k's on it when compared with the au which has probably a bit more in perspective). there are probably a few more options for the au when it comes to wheels and whatnot, being newer (as far as i assume anyway)

I'd be going for the EB XR8, if it's in good condition... but then I've got a thing for 8's and EB's...
 What model AU? If it's just a base model Forte, then no way, but if it's a fairmont or something, makes the decision harder.120,000kms over 1 years is less than 10,000kms a year too. |

1 57kw vs 165kw isn't much of much imo... AU1 has almost if not the same brakes as the EA-EL. Bang for buck the AU wins and the EB looks dated

I would look at neither, and focus on finding an AUII (better brakes and other nice upgrades) and do what you said earlier: dump it on 19s, and fit a big **** turbo. It will most-likely be more reliable being newer, and access to aftermarket parts is not a problem (lots of body kits, panels, lights, wheels etc for the AU).

Get the AU,it will also be cheaper for insurance then compared to the XR8.

there isnt anything wrong with a S1 forte. hell i used to have one (2000S1) and it was fine. and at only 80000kms its done alot less than most others.

I would get the EB. The EB is a V8 (if only a Wheezer) and is a good looking car. The AU? Well it is an AU (Ugly) and a standard HAD. Only thing really going against the EB is the fact it is an Auto.

Go the AU. A new "ugly" car for the same price as an old, dated car? The choice is obvious - ugly wins every time.

LOL. Some good points guys. While funds are limited right now I think I will stick to the AU1, as I will get it reasonably cheap for km's and what not, plus I can pay it off without bank fee's, charges and interest! So I will go the AU, mod it a little, then I will be happy.
