Default Changing Melbourne Speed limits to 40 from 50(was 60)

Well, thats the news for all the streets in central Melbourne.

First they change the limit down to 50 from 60, put in speed cameras. Eventually people arent being caught, so, well, lets make it 40, then maybe some cash can be made. Whats next? 30?!! 20?!!

I just drive around any non-highway at 30-40km and laugh at people getting angry these days, its too hard trying to read timed 40zones now since they have added some that have nothing to with school or trying to remember when schoolholidays stop and start.

Of course they know. You are assuming this is about safety. Its not, its about revenue.

The money (we are talking tens of millions) goes into "consolidated revenue". Think of it as a big spending fund for lame *** ideas. From this the Govt gets to think up new ways to waste taxpayers money. Usually something aimed at a minority group that hates them at the moment. Its like a huge vote buying piggy bank.

No we are not quite as bad as VIC when it comes to speed camera's, at least we get 3 gigantic warning signs before any camera - honestly I don't even know how they catch anyone, they must be sleeping or something to miss the signs.

Maybe that's why they changed the bottom of the number plates from "Victoria: The State On The Move" to "Victoria:The Place To Be".

We can't get out because we can't move! :

I wonder how ofter push bikes set these things off?
If I had a bike I'd be screaming up and down past one of these things that sits not far from here just to **** them off. What could they actually do? There not even police and theres no numberplate.

Like the HUGE party to celebrate the opening of whatever unfinished train station it is that was never advertised and only 5000 Victorians attended??
And they most probably attended because they were walking through the city as they'd lost their licenses for doing 4km/h over the limit a couple of times.

ok cool thanks for clearing that up for me, funny they never seem to think about the condition of the roads, i think that would be a good place to start spending that money, if the money comes off the roads(us drivers) then its only fair to put it back into the roads(fixing those @#$% potholes everywhere), instead of more cameras and road popo.

Now that would be fun to watch - Maybe you could fly past on one of those crazy home made scooters with the wipper snipper engines attached to the side or one of the minature 2 stroke pocket bikes pulling a mono and waving?
