Sat in a demo ST today. Was offered a test drive, but paternal duties limited my play time.

Thought the seats looked great, but no way could I get comfortable in them. I'm tall but average build, and the side bolsters were certainly intruding more than welcome. I'd imagine they'd be great for track day work or driving responsibly along the Great Ocean Rd. but for an everyday commute????
Then again, I prefer the standard GT seats over the GTP wrap arounds.

Ah okay, thanks for the clarification. I'm guessing the subwoofer connection will still be there in the back of the console to hook one up without too much effort?
I have the German built Titanium w/o Sync. There is no sub woofer output behind the audio unit, unless there is a amp elsewhere?

My ST arrives in country off the boat tomorrow. Hopefully have it next week. Have read a lot of thoughts on seats, so today was in at Binks and sat in the seats. I must say, love them. Unlike the RS seats which nearly take your legs off or worse getting in and out the thigh support was not too high and the support on the back was just firm enough. Can't wait to drive it!

Now I'm starting to get a little excited as our ST is also on that boat.
The misses and I have both sat in one and find them very comfy but sadly we are yet to drive one, something to look forward to next week.

The only thing I dislike is that numberplate recess in the front grille. Looks tacky and crap unless you have Euro plates.

Will be okay with slimline plates. Bit annoying though, would be good if we got out our own grill.

looks like i have been given the all clear for a new car in January. at the moment, it is between the Focus Sport and the ST. The sport is incredible good value for money and a great looking car. the ST on the other hand is a lot more expensive, but...it is the ST, and it is fast, and bloody lovely. Head says go the Sport, but the heart says the ST. heart is winning ATM.

Could even just buy a US front honey comb grille and make up your own bracket.

Today I picked up my ST from Binks Ford in Deer Park. Firstly thanks to them for a great deal and great service. I highly recommend them and dealt with James and Simon.

The first drive. What can I say? I don't think I have ever had this much fun driving a new car! It handles a charm, has so many bells and whistles and plenty of power. A great package. I cannot fault it yet! I am not one to write too much but will provide further updates as I drive it more!

Is a Charcoal concrete sealer, 3 coats, needs a clean at the moment. I would have liked polished but finding someone and time was against me.

Just to add to Redrums post.

I picked mine up yesterday also and this car is a pleasure to drive.
Sticks to the road like no ones business and cornering is very very good even under fairly hard acceleration.

My wife loves the colour as well (which helps). This car has an insane amount of pull in 2nd and 3rd gear.. It is deeply satisfying to drive and I couldn't be happier with the choice I made.
I am also a fairly big bloke. 6ft 115kg and I fit quite snugly in the seats. It is not uncomfortable at all.

Found an exhaust that dosnt sound too bad. It would appear that there is alot more needed than simply strapping on some straight through pipes. This is the only branded system i have come across on the net that dosnt sound raspy like a civic. There are others out there in America but they are completely custom.

here is the link to the vid

company is an American mob called FSwerks:

The ST system dosnt appear to be listed yet.

Would have thought the Euro companies would be all over it by now. At least stuff from the states will be cheaper!

Meh... sounds pretty average. Free revving doesn't really give you much of an idea if what it actually sounds like anyway.

Not too bad, but i think it would drone - Have heard a few different clips of the magnaflow and every one of them has bee different so far.

In other news. New Motor mag is out. They still rated the old MK6 GTI higher than the new ST..... Because guess why...

The DSG golf beat the ST in a straight line... 6.12 to 6.79 from 0-100km/h

The Golf also beat the ST at the 0-400m 14.59 to 15.09

Yet... anyone who buys these cars is more concerned about corner speed and lap times i would think...

ST beat the focus round the same track 1:19.6 to 1:20.5

(keep in mind in the same article the ST was quicker round the track than the Hyundai veloster and toyota 86)

Yet that wasnt mentioned in the final verdict. The golf just wins for best "overall".

I love how those times are rather slow, but i find it baffling how they can rate hot hatches by straight line speed!

Who the hell cars about best "overall" for hot hatches. We just want to know which one gives the most fun and goes like stink round curves. If they were going for overall, then why not include the megane... or the MPS? scared it would hurt your precious golf? God forbid they put the wrx up against it (hey its still consider a hatch "overall").

Lets look at an American comparo:

http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews...i/viewall.html

GTI: 0-60 MPH 6.7 sec (DSG)

ST: 0-60 MPH 6.2 sec

So because some Motor mag journo has wood for Golfs and cant launch a manual, the Golf is auto win.. Lets see Manual v Manual (The transmission your likely to get because you want to throw these cars around). Same track and watch those times get further and further apart.

Appalling effort by motor in this comparo and last Motor mag i will be buying for a while.

/end rant and go the Focus ST!

here is the final pages of the comparo. Not sure if i can upload the whole thing or not without getting in trouble from the moderators (if one of you could confirm that i can upload it then i will upload the rest)
