Default Timing Locked by Scan Tool

Interesting (and scary the first time!) discovery using a Snappy “Modis Edge” for a VE with the L98 donk.

Startup with the scan tool in operation resulted in huge rattles, I think from the variable cam timing gears, and a stench of fuel. Couldn’t hold an idle.

With tool powered down and disconnected - back to normal.

Has anyone else seen a similar phenomenon?

Not familiar with your diagnostic tool but maybe it developed a glitch, should be a reset somewhere on it, give it try and see what happens.

I tried it later on an Alloytec VE and zero issues. For a tool that cost $7K four years back, it’s a little disappointing. If I can get more information, I’ll add it.
