Default What's this Carby set up from Mad Max 2

Is it just movie magic or is the twin horizontal pipe set up ligit? It's pictured here on the enemy Landau and a Torana but how's it work?

Ideas?

I believe the technical name for that setup is "How to suck vast quantities of engine-destroying dust, dirt, and road crap into your engine"...

It might work, but those would be awfully long pipes going from the back of the carby/turbo to the inlet...

Well, thats how it used to be done...as in the early years pushing boost into the carbs was a bit of a touch and go thing...

Suck-through method is proven and worked....

And really...no longer pipe work then any other method...

Look up "Side Draft carburettor"
looks like a couple of side drafts fitted to the turbos
probably didn't work in the movie, but looked pretty cool

The Landau in MM2 was only in the movie for 3mins and then gets destroyed.
A lot of work went into it to make it "look" right... however its engine set up was bog stock standard.

The set up on the bonnet (if it was real) means you wouldnt be able to open the bonnent at all...

I bet it worked as well as Max's (aircon compressor driven) Supercharger in the original

My guess is also a couple of old Webers

Agree- old Webers or Delorto side draft. Having seen loads of behind the scenes photos of the cars from MM2 I wuld guess they were attached to any old piece of pipe which end 2inches below the bonnet and are attached to nothing.

They'd be side draft (DCOE) Webers.

Set up on suck-through turbo installations, 80's style (pre EFI).
