Seriously, if you are going to self isolate. Your living room should look something like this by the time you come out after 2 weeks.
Haha I actually picked up a case today and said to the bloke 'as long as we don't run out of **** we will be ok but **** might get real after that. More real than Bunning's snags being cancelled'

I had the same thought but didn't want to out myself as an alco.
Seriously today I had to go to spudshed* for my parents (75) as they wanted milk and meat. Even in WA colesworths have no milk and meat, but we have spud shed it's a 24/7 veg market with more freezers and fridges than the average colesworths.

(*tony galati - potato grower started this supermarket a few years ago after fighting the government/WA potato board that limited varieties and amounts of potato from some archaic ww2 basic food staple laws)

I'm glad he started spud shed here because the normal people like me can got there for veg, bread etc in times like these where the sheep don't shop.

Even managed to get a single pack of spaghetti, but at higher than normal price, no spirals or penne like my kid likes when he visits, no pesto, rice, flour, noodles etc. But freezers and fridges full of meat and frozen goods. Grabbed some bread for myself, and often they have something frozen really cheap, last time I went a month ago it was $1.99 4pk 4n20 premium beer/stout pies, this time it was 99c plain cheese mccain rustica pizzas so I bought 2 of them as maybe my kid would like them on the weekend if he can't get his favourite spiral pasta and pesto.

Went to my local woolworths after for some unscented antiperspirant and the ****s had none. 0 good stuff, just an aisle full of the scented crap spray that started to really get me irate.
Perhaps the benefit after all this is over is some useless waste of space products on the shelves will be discontinued? Market research should point very strongly to what people care about the most? But it was funny seeing how bad woolworths was with no meat or frozen stuff at all compared to spudshed

Other than that I'm not panicking, because no one is going to run out of food (but maybe toilet paper)... I was starting to get worried about booze, but it seems all alco's like me aren't into panicking either, bottle shops are like normal.

I have concluded the hoarders’ playbook uses mince because they (the American authors) lack the skills or confidence to choose and prepare meat from larger cuts. Notwithstanding the significance of how many more things you can make from a large piece (meat, mince, stock, fat).

We were down to about 4 rolls in the house so wife went down to the shop this morning, walked in bought some tp (24pk), a few other things and came home. She was gone no more than half an hour. Not sure what the problem is.

I went to my regular butcher to buy my weekly shop. They have employed security; only 2 customers in the shop at a time, security guard gives you a squirt of hand sanitizer as you enter.

On leaving I asked the security guard to escort me back lto my car because I had meat and toilet paper in my bag and feared I would not make it. He told me I would be right and to just whistle if I needed him....

Nope, but no need to panic.

If you have more than your usual supply in your house then you are part of the problem.

People have convinced themselves there is a shortage. They go to the shop and see the empty shelves and think, oh no, I better buy up too or I'll die. It's a domino effect.

The suppliers (Kimberly Clark etc) must be rubbing their hands together at this stupidity. They won't run out. The whole supply chain is telling people there is no shortage yet they just don't get it. If everyone just calmed down and allowed the shops time to restock and then just shopped as needed, this empty shelf business would all be over.

This is a general post, not directed at bossxr8.

Many moons ago our depot was the metro Adelaide distribution centre for Kimberly Clark, every day we'd hand unload on to pallets 2 B doubles, to maintain the stockpile which took up a good 5000sqm building, if people realised how much of it is stored away in warehouses there would be no concerns.
Having said that our local Coles and Foodland are out and when questioned about it I was told the issue is the stores receiving can't handle full trucks of TP alone as they just don't have the space out back and so with ****ers buying what they can put out the way they have been it's impossible to maintain supply stock on shelf for more than an hour.

On another note, an elderly Italian couple going through the checkout in front of us had 5 x bags of 12kg flour in their trolley which is on the restricted list, the checkout chick let it through so after they walked off I quietly questioned it, the girl looked worried and looked up the list of restrictions, I said it's all good I'm not going to give you a hard time, but be careful because some people would and it's not worth losing your job over. She thanked me and I said you've got your hands full with massive queues, if management really wanted to enforce it they program the registers to only accept the limits per transaction.

Honestly dude, there's issues all over the world to get things, whether ur a hoarder, or a weekly shopper.

The wife is a deli manager at coles, and we can't get jack **** as holding things for staff is not allowed, and hiding stuff out the back to slow down sales is not true either.

Need to cut the shops a bit more slack. They have limited storage space on site. Trucks are being increased to try to keep up with demand. Shelves don't stock themselves. It's all done by hand and a lot by school kids and young people. They aren't superheroes. They are being worked extra hours and extra shifts doing their best to try keep up.

Australia produces enough food to feed 75 million people. Do the maths.

Humans are the problem here.

West of Mel here. I've noticed a slight recovery in the last couple of days. No dunny paper/tissues/flour etc but plenty of fresh fruit/veg and some meat. Deli cold/cut section has been loaded every time I've been.

Went to a small Coles on the main street today thinking it would be empty, but not the case - probably got 70% of stock as opposed to on a normal day. Long-life milk was there (only light) but had maybe 100 litres of fresh milk. Rice was back but no flour. Couple boxes of pasta/canned tomatoes. 30 or so dozens off eggs. Didn't check the meat section and I only purchased one of what I needed, besides the canned tomatoes (x2).

Bakers Delight was full of stock, the Butcher shop next to it had plenty of meat, cafes have a few people inside and out. Road traffic, not that much difference. This was about 3 hours ago, so...

But the above could change very quickly.

Not big on comprehension either obviously...

If you could highlight for me where I've said the shops around me are overflowing I'll happily make a retraction.

I’m getting low on plain old bleach - about 100ml left. There have been a couple of “incidents” where it formed part of the remedy. Local Quickie-Mart, Colesworths, Aldi all out.

I reckon the people with a spare room stuffed full of bog rolls and canned refried beans for the tortillas they’ll never make, have probably got half a dozen 2L bottles each...

True. But just because one supermarket has it doesn't mean the others will.

I can't understand people buying many, many huge packs of toilet paper. Enough to last 5 or 6 months. It's ridiculous. And then everyone else stocks up because they have to take it when they can get it.

Do these clowns think the supermarkets are going to close and never open again?

Mate, there's no point to ur post. I can read and comprehend fine. Prydey stating the bleeding obvious, throwing facts & figures around all day, it doesn't change anything. Talking about how his wife can duck down to the shop without an issue & wonder what the world's fuss is about, is just being cheeky.

WTF? I don't need a lecture every time you post.

My observation was;
Coles- had all supplies
Woolworths - empty.

I have no affiliation to either. Happy to buy from either.

My post purely fact not opinion.

Just goes to show, this has shown all of us how important it is for this country to be independent when it comes to growing our own foods (Aussie owned) here and individual states not selling all the good primary farm land (coastal NSW as an example) to housing developments.

Newcastle produces virtually nothing when it comes to food. Apart from LCM bars down lake Macquarie way, the Hunter used to have all those cattle and dairy farms but now produce grapes to p*ss up against the wall.

To me locally North East of Victoria is one of the food bowls of this country and needs to be protected.
We rely heavily on food transportation now from large logic centres instead of producing locally and buying what is in season locally.
