Default Newbie Requiring Further Assistance

Hi Guys before I start I would like to thank the following: photn, melbzetec,orsest170,zetec for helping me reach a decision in buying an ST170. It bring me great pleasure to say that I have bought one and hoping to get it this friday. I cant wait

Anywayz back to my question. The sound system on the ST170 is not good enough for my duff duff music so I have the following questions.

Where are the speakers and wat size are they?

Wat is sound deading?
how do I go about installing one?
Is this necessary?

Does anyone know if I can get a facia for the ST170 locally?

Is $500 enough for sub and amp, speakers and sound deadning?

Thank you all in advance for your help

That 500 will get you some pretty low end gear (amp, sub, speakers)

I paid $1200 for my stereo and that includes headunit, 6½" front splits, mono block amp, 2 channel power amp and a 12" sub....all alpine as well. The standard speakers are 5x7". Sound deading is like installtion so it will stop squeeks and rattles. It costs a fair bit about $40 a metre i heard not sure. I used a Ford Cougar facia on my Focus, cost me $40.

Hope this helps

I got a DIN adapter for the facia.. from JB hifi.. they had to order it in.. was bout 30-40 i think.. So u can chuck a headunit straight in there..

If you don't wanna get a headunit.. u can attach the sub with line out convertors..

Okay. Piotr is raelly good with ICE but i will give it a go......

Okay 500 wont really get you much. Sound deadening is about 250-300, if you replace your headunit then you loose the Steering wheel mounted controls.

Ideally you want to spend about 500 on an amp & sub. and about the same for speakers and what not.

My sujestion is. get the sub and amp. get a line converter (which allows you to tap into the existing head unit Via a speaker cable and get a RCA conection to the amp) which will give you the bass.....so you can have your doof doof....tune you bass to come on strong medium/high end and what you do is set your trebble to max. If you get it tuned at an Audio shop then they will automatically do that.

What i did was Spend 90 on a sub 150 on an amp and 30 bucks on the line converter,40 on a sub box and another 30 for the Wiring Kit. I wired everything up and got it all sorted, and all the tuner had to do is install the Line converter and tune the Sub an amp.....Its a pretty decent system for basically a stock cd player and speakers. im saving up for my speakers now and an amp. also going to get sound deadening. im keeping the stock headunit cause it has Steering wheel mounted controls, and i sujest that before you replace it drive the car for about a month and what not and get used to the Audio stalk, then make a decision to get rid of it or keep it. up to you.

But by all means get the Sub and amp connected up.

I have a stock systems with Alpine Type S 6 inch splits mounted in the front doors, with the tweeters mounted in the mirror housings. Cleans up the sound a lot, but no amp or rear speakers, it was literally to raise the sound stage and increase the clarity. One day I'll add an amp and do the back speakers, but I wanted OE look with steering remote functionality.

If you ditch the 6-stacker, I'll buy it off you for $200.

Snax, you should come to Small Ford Sunday at Bundoora this Sunday and show off the new toy. Have a look in the Euroford Club section for details
