Buckcherry have an awesome new album to be released in april, copies are on the net, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes hard rock. It's available on import from Japan.
Album title is "15"

not really a 'band' but they used to call him 'the one man band' even though he is a rapper/producer....

Satyricon - Dark Medieval Times - Walk The Path Of Sorrow - brilliant early black metal
Satyricon - Volcano - Repined Bastard Nation - a nice taste of their latest offering
Theatre Of Tragedy - Velvet Darkness They Fear - Der Tans Der Shatten - Gothic metal but their later stuff sucks
Within Temptation - The Silent Force - Forsaken - another band I'm surprised isn't more popular

Dream theater! Not alternative. Prog metal/rock.

Maybe a bit more Indie/Lo-Fi and some are probably a "heard of", but anyway:
Elliott Smith (most of his stuff, but in particular anything from his Either Or album and From a Basement on the Hill)
Sigur Rós - Ágætis Byrjun
The Beta Band - The Three EPs
Mogwai - Come on Die Young, Mogwai (self-titled)
Eskimo Joe - A Song is a City
Anja Garbarek - Briefly Shaking

I've got a pretty broad taste, and a lot of my friends think I'm weird - but what would they know - they listen to R&B top 40 crud.

I've got lots of other unknown artists & groups but they fall under different genres (electronic, Trip-Hop, roots, drum n bass, acid jazz etc).

Too many to mention really.

My fav bands though would include:
Primus
Rage Against the Machine
*old* Incubus
Chili Peppers (especially old stuff.. Talking BSSM, Mothers Milk, Uplift Mofo etc.. And some of californication, their non released songs were awesome on that).

Then there's more local bands like gyroscope, butterfly effect, sounds like chicken, etc etc etc. As I said.. too many to mention really. But there's a taste.

Also my band.. lol.
