Default Worn Tyres

Hey all, I have had my car lowered on Standard 17inch rims for over a year now and i have had the tyres Dunlop 3000A for nearly 2 years now and all my tyres are nearly worn. My Front drivers tyre is totally bold on the inside while the other side there is some tread left! I spoke to the tyre people and they said you need a camber kit. Spoke to a few mechanics and they said that you dont need one, they are only 17inch!!!!

I dont drive all that hard or do burn outs so what can i do to avoide this happening in the future and any suggestions why this has happened would be greatly appreciated!!!

Im on SL's and 17's and was told I had to have camber kits. I think its better to be safe then sorry anyway.

tyre size has no bearing on if you need a camber kit or not.. and it sounds like you do mate.

Sounds like you have the same problem I did.

I told my mech about putting a camber kit in and he said I don't need it, and adjusted my toe in about a degree and haven't had any uneven tyre wear on the front, but I have a real floating sensation on the highway now.

The caster camber is different on all cars I have had 4 AUs up the drive .we lowered 1 had the front end re alignment no problems the next needed the caster camber kit .. it just the luck of the draw . just take it to a reliable front end place & they will tell you what it needs

Same here, but minus the floating sensation on the highway...

How often do you rotate and align your wheels?

ok the tyres have done about 25 XXX. And i havent really roated them like i should. Will a camber kit affect handling?

Did you have a wheel alignment done after the car was lowered?

yeah, a wheel alignment has been done after lowering. I just might need a camber kit. With a camber kit does that mean i will never need a wheel alignment?

camber kit just chages the angle...
if you hit a nice pot hole you are still going to need a wheel alignment, lol

I got one after i lowered my car for the 2nd time. definitely worth the money. gives more adjustment for lowered cars.

i had a awesome looking camber, but would have killed my tyres in no time.

Fitting a camber kit is a good idea if it's needed, sometimes you can get away with just shimming out the upper arms to decrease camber, just depends on how much camber you need to take out.

Front Camber Changes
If you lower your vehicle one inch front camber can change by approximately -.75 degree.
By lowering a vehicle two inches your front camber change will be approximately -1.50 degrees.
When you lower a vehicle three inches you will change front camber approximately -2.50 degrees.

Rear Camber Changes
If you lower your vehicle one inch rear camber can change by approximately -.50 degree.
By lowering a vehicle two inches your rear camber change will be approximately -1.00 degrees.
When you lower a vehicle three inches you will change rear camber approximately -2.00 degrees.
I have a Pedders camber shim kit on my NB Fairlane that I fitted myself but it kept losing its cambers settings until I fitted strut brace and a sump guard which together seemed to stop the flex in the wings. Although it has double A arm rather than strut suspension these items also noticeably improved the handling as well.

I had issues with excessive negative camber & no adjustment to correct the problem on a XR6 with factory 17's
Approached Ford as a warranty claim who said it was within spec & politely told me to go away
I tried the toe in method for a while but the car felt skittish at high speed
Approx 40000 ks ago I fitted a Pedders kit which solved my negative camber problem
Another option is to fit the upper control arm mounting brackets from the T series which allow for shimming camber
I chose the Pedders kit because it also allows caster adjustment
plus it was a cheaper easier option for me at the time
